Beard Famous Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 Hi all, Just looking for some help. I am using a mock-up template that has a smart object layer for where you can update the designs. Shows as embeddded document on affinity. it was working fine yesterday updating on the main layer when I changed anything on the smart object but tonight it’s not updating. how do I fix this. I haven’t changed any settings just saved the project. cheers S Quote
walt.farrell Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, @Beard Famous. Without a sample file to examine, or some screenshots, I think it will be a guessing game to figure out what might have happened. lepr and Callum 2 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. What kind of change did you make to the embedded document and what was the result in the main document? Lyons_Racing_Iracing Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 I think I saved it as a Affinity Photo file, I just saved it as a psd editable file see if it retains the smart objects. Quote

No Saving should be needed if you're just double-clicking on the Embedded layer and making a change to it. Changes you make should be applied immediately in the outer document. And that should continue if you Save as a .afphoto file. If you Export a PSD you'll lose the Smart Object function, I think (but I haven't tried it, and I don't have Photoshop to confirm). I have not seen that, nor seen it reported by anyone else. I doubt it is related to what we've been discussing, but I'm still a bit puzzled by what it is that you're reporting. Your initial statement of the problem seems to be that you can't update the Embedded document and see a change in the outer document. Now it seems to be related to Saving. Is it only a problem after Saving? Can you share the document with us? It should allow changes, even after saving as .afphoto. Something else is happening, but unless you can share the original (.psd?) file it will be difficult to say what. walt.farrell Posted October 12, 2024 Posted October 12, 2024 First, do you have the option enabled in Photo's Settings, General, to tread Smart Objects as Smart Objects? If not, it won't work as you want. Next, when you Open your PSD file (not your .afphoto file), does it open without issuing any error messages? If you get errors, perhaps they are interfering with the Smart Object processing. I can't explain why it might have worked initially, and then no longer worked after you Saved the PSD as a .afphoto file. Sorry. Perhaps Serif staff will be able to help when they get to this topic. Sorry.
