Why is the document window always small?

Every time I make a new document (AF Pub) or even open an old one, the window for it is not taking up the full size of the area between my toolbars. It's always like 800x600 on screen pixels. I am using "separated mode". Is there a way to set it to snap to the inside area under the option bar, and between the tool bar and my set of panels? Adobe apps do this just fine.

If not, that's a feature request.
