Change and Fix Layer Size

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm generally new to affinity and had only work with Gimp a little before.

I would like to set a layer to a specific size, let's say 300 x 500 pixels and anchor them at specific x ans y coordinates on the canvas.

With the Move Tool (V) and the Transform tab on the bottom right, I'm able to do that.

But when I then use the brush or other tools I'm able to draw outside of the specified area of the layer.

How am I able to fix and lock (I tried the protective lock button for the layer, too) the layer's size, so that when I have this layer selected, I'm only able to draw on that area and not the whole canvas?

Thanks and best regards,
Lennie.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

The answer may depend on the application you're working with, and the kind of layer you're working with, and the exact tool. However, for a (Pixel) layer and a raster brush, try enabling the Protect Alpha option in the Brush Tool's Context Toolbar.

Make a selection (marching ants) of the layer then your brush strokes will be restrained within that selection
