LeftandRight Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 (edited) Hi, I'm on day 2 of my 10 day trial of AD. If I can solve this I'll buy it. 🙂 Because I like it, but I"ve run into a snag. I believe AD will do what I want but I'm not sure how. And I believe my problem is about what AD would call "intermediate angles" in axonometic grids. OVERALL GOAL: Imagine a house that's a box, and has a slanted roof (say pitched at 30 degrees). PROBLEM: I can draw the box, which is the walls of the house, using the axonometric grid. But how do I do the roof? I want to draw a plane for the roof, and snap it to an intermediate angle (at 30 degrees to the front wall) THE DOCUMENTATION IN AD: I've read it, and it seems to imply this is possible. It even says the intermediate angles will show up orange. But I can't find them. When I try to transform (rotate) an object that's snapped to one of the 3 basic planes in the grid, the object only rotates around IN that plane. It won't rotate oblique to the plane, using a line on the plane as central axis. But this is what the roof of a house must do. It must be rotated, at, say, 30 degrees to the front wall. How do I get that sort of rotation?  Thanks LeftandRight Edited September 29, 2020 by LeftandRight Quote

The options there only allow rotation along the surface of the three isometric planes. I need to create an object (the roof) on an oblique plane. The Grid and Snapping Axis dialog allows me to even see the planes I want, in the "additional axis" section -> "intermediate angles". I can set how many, and they show up on the example display right beside the choice box, in the Grid And Snapping Axis dialog box. But what I don't understand is how to actually access these intermediate axes in the workspace. LeftandRight Quote
Staff Lee D Posted October 7, 2020 Staff Posted October 7, 2020 They can be enabled for Snapping on the first dropdown menu under the Additional axis setup options and will show as a preview. However they can't be visually added to the main grid view, however when you have snapping enabled they will show as orange indicators/lines. Quote

Hi Lee D, I'm sorry but I only have one day left in my free trial (out of 10) and even with this hint I can't find those orange indicators in the workspace. There seem to be too many options, and your answer doesn't have specific steps. I think you'd need to give me full specific steps starting from opening a raw new file, for me to find it at this point. Otherwise I think I'm done with AD, unfortunately. I've turned on all the additional axis snapping options I can find, and nothing shows up. In Grid: In Menu Snapping: In workspace, axes: No intermediate angles. When I rotate objects they rotate on the plane, not around a plane to intermediate divisions, which is what I want. LeftandRight Edited October 7, 2020 by LeftandRight Quote
