Grouping text with images

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm having a problem when grouping text with an image. Text is wrapped around the image and I want to add a caption to the image. By creating a text box outside of the original text I can write the caption and then move that caption text box to the image before grouping them together. The text box will move easily enough and it will form a group with the image easily enough, my problem is that the text stays where it was formed and doesn't move with the text box. I then end up with a larger frame around the image but no text, why isn't the text moving when I move the text box?

It might help us to know what you mean if you give us an annotated image and/or better differentiate which “text box” you are talking about at each stage of your description.
It will also help us if you can give us a full-screen screen-grab which includes your Layers Panel with the layers concerned showing in that panel (that will show us better how you have “grouped” your layers).

OK.The first image shows the original text wrapped around the image with the image selected. Second image shows the text box after it's been moved to sit under the image, at this stage the text (produced outside the original text box that contains the story) is missing, obviously it was present within this small text box before  the text box was moved. The third image shows the selected image after it's been grouped with the text. I hope this helps.

This sounds your Text Wrap settings prevent the text from being placed as close to the image as wanted, and possibly with the "show text overflow" feature active (red eye icon * not crossed out 833838454_textoverflowicon.jpg.6d5c8ee844a5dd68fcefd4249a28a8b3.jpg), make the text appear outside of its frame. – I don't understand from your description in which way it is a matter of grouping.  ( * you need to scale the text frame slightly to make it appear)

To solve it you can exclude the image caption text frame from text wrapping: tick the "Ignore..." option in the Text Frame panel.
