What is the actual file size and what is the desired file size? If the field for dpi is empty in the export dialogue, there is no raster image / effect inside the document. So changing the resolution won't help here. Have you tried the various export options? You can play with the settings also hidden under the More button. The estimated file size will be shown to you. Maybe it would help to decrease the file size if you export only a selection and not the whole artboard / page.
