What release of Publisher are you running, and what OS, Nathan.

With 1.8.3 (or 1.8.4 beta) on Windows, it does not seem to be possible to edit a Linked SVG file at all in Publisher. It is only possible to Edit an Embedded SVG file, and at that point (naturally) the changes are only saved locally in the Publisher document.

So, if you're up-to-date with Publisher, I'd have to ask if you're sure your SVG file was Linked, as if it is it's odd you were able to edit it at all :)

1.8.3, Windows

Unlike editing PDFs, where you double-click with the "move" tool selected, to edit SVGs you double-click with the node tool selected. They edit just fine (and are definitely linked). But changes do not save.

I'm having to use linked SVGs rather than PDFs because Publisher can't correctly display all my PDFs (long story, Serif has been working on it but hasn't cracked it yet). Embedding SVGs doesn't seem like a good option because I need to periodically update the original files outside of Publisher, in addition to separately editing them within Publisher.

I don't think you're supposed to be able to edit them that way, Nathan. And the fact that you can may be a bug.

The Context Toolbar (for the Move Tool) does not have an Edit Document button. And with the Node Tool or the Move Tool, double-clicking on the layer thumbnail does not work for me to get into Edit mode.

If I double-click on the layer on the page, using the Node Tool, I do get an edit window. But it is for an Embedded document, just as I would get for a PDF document. Check the title on the document tab, which will say it's Embedded.

You can only edit (and save changes to the original) if you have a Linked image file (JPG, TIFF, PNG) or a Linked Affinity document (.afphoto, .afdesign, .afpub). For anything else you end up editing it as an embedded document. This is because you can only save changes to the original linked document if you can use File > Save or Save As, and you can't Save a PDF, or SVG, or kinds of document (vs image) files. You can only Export them.
