MikeA Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 A thread in a general-discussion area here concerned unexpected behavior when 'No Break' is set for a text style via the style-editing dialog. (There might be a bug involved or it might be working as designed; I'm not sure.) One participant mentioned not being able to find information about 'No Break' in the online help. I searched for 'break' within the help and also couldn't find 'No Break' either. It would be helpful to have this documented in future releases — especially if its use within the Character palette is intended to have an entirely different effect from what happens when you enable the setting in the style-editing dialog. walt.farrell Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 It's documented, sort of, in the Help for the Character Panel: Quote No break—tick this checkbox to ensure lines will not be broken at the ends. Soft hyphens will still be honoured. walt.farrell Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 By the way, for reference, I think the other discussion that Mike mentioned is this one: MikeA 1 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. In a paragraph not having that style: When I placed the insertion point within it and clicked No Break in the Character palette, nothing changed. The setting did not have its apparent intended effect until I'd selected all text within the paragraph. (Working as designed?) Quote Affinity Publisher and Photo 1.8.3 (Windows). The change in the Character panel would not affect existing text unless you had already selected the text. It would affect text that you enter after that point. Character panel changes affect selected text or text that is about to be entered. Paragraph panel changes affect paragraphs, both current and yet-to-be entered.
