Embedded EPS containing just vector graphics. At the screen shot above it is just an example, not the object I would like to convert. The origin graphic is not allowed to me to show in public.

Here are some alternative solutions.

To get an embedded PDF with colours specified as one channel greyscale:

  1. select the embedded EPS
  2. export to PDF with Area: "Selection without background" and Colour Space: "Grey"
  3. replace the embedded colour EPS with the exported greyscale PDF

To get an embedded EPS with colours specified as one channel greyscale:

  1. double-click the embedded EPS to open it into a new document view
  2. convert the new document view to Grey/8
  3. export the new document view to EPS
  4. close the new document view
  5. replace the embedded document (which is now a greyscale mode Affinity document containing coloured objects) with the exported greyscale EPS

To get an embedded greyscale mode Affinity document containing coloured objects:

  1. double-click the embedded EPS to open it into a new document view
  2. convert the new document view to Grey/8
  3. close the new document view

I too would like to have something like AI's quick convert functionality. The "Edit > Recolor Art" option mentioned is one way, but in AI CS6 I can select an object (or objects), click the flyout menu in the Color palette, and choose Greyscale to convert everything in one go. The comparable action in AD shows me what the greyscale value of any given object would be, but doesn't do the conversion. I guess I can make note of those values and manually change each object, but that's pretty tedious.

I thought a fix might be switch the Document Color format to greyscale and back, but it seems the color values remain tied to the object even while in greyscale format. All color sliders are still active, but show grey! Weird! Perhaps a handy way to do a quick check of what ones artwork will look like in B&W, but would love a quick way to actually convert things to B&W.

If its an image layer you simply click the wanted color.

As the OP says, we'd like to be able to select a single or group of vector objects and convert them to greyscale.
