Paul Klein Posted April 3, 2020 Posted April 3, 2020 (edited) Whenever I try to update Affinity Photo 1.8.0 on Windows 10 to 1.8.2 or 1.8.3 Setup starts normal but ends with the message: "Error with Setup" ("Fehler beim Setup"). This even happens with a clean install. In this case Setup creates the folder 'c:\program files\Affinity\Photo', deletes it right away and ends itself with the error message. Update: I started affinity-photo-1.8.2 and installed it to another folder ('D:\Programme\Photo') and it worked. Then I started affinity-photo-1.8.3 on this very folder and again it failed with the same Error-Message again. Fun fact: When I retry to install into this now empty folder D:\Programme it fails again. So, for now I can't install to 'c:\program files\Affinity\Photo' nor to 'D:\Programme\Photo'. Paul Klein Posted April 3, 2020 Author Posted April 3, 2020 Yes, of course I did all this as Admin. We tried this out on a second PC with the same result. Very confusing is that when I install into an other folder and try the update that somewhere in the depth of Windows it saves the Installation Path and would never again install into that path properly again. Interestingly enough the Installation of Affinity-photo-1.8.0 runs fine. Quote
Paul Klein Posted April 3, 2020 Author Posted April 3, 2020 Update: After reserching the registry I found the temporarily install path. When Affinity.msi is started directly it is reclaiming that Main.cab is corrupt, so I assume that there is something wrong with both of these installers (v.1.8.2 and 1.8.3). So I think I have to stick with 1.8.0 for now. Quote
Joachim_L Posted April 3, 2020 Posted April 3, 2020 Or maybe the download is corrupt? Paul Klein Posted April 3, 2020 Author Posted April 3, 2020 (edited) Finally solved: Obviously it's no good idea to get the updates via the program. I logged into our Affinity-Store account and downloaded Photo from there. This time Installation went through without any problem. I just don't understand why the versions that were downloaded from inside the program didn't work, as the downloaded files had the right size and did not cast any fault. The Setup file did start up an worked and I assume that it when it is started first proves itself to be ok. Edited April 3, 2020 by Paul Klein Quote

Personally, I think it doesn't matter at all, because it is going to the same link and the same file anyway. Just in the first case you did not download correctly, which is good to check the Digital Signatures.
