Buy from Affinity Store or Mac App Store

Recommended Posts

I'm sure this question has been answered 100 times, so I apologize for asking it again.

I'm a little confused from where I should buy Affinity Photo.

From what I understand, the App itself is the same (feature wise and so on), but Apple have "sandboxed" the Mac App Store Version.

My question/questions is what features or limitations does the "sandboxing" do? Is it a big dealbreaker to buy from the Mac App Store?

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

I can't comment on any aspecf of any sandboxing that may occur. I can mention, though, that if you look through the forums you'll find many posts from users who've had problems updating to newer releases due to issues with the Mac App Store (MAS) not working properly. Also, if you buy from Serif directly you can downgrade to earlier releases if you need to, which is a capability you don't have with the MAS.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, Ali.

I think I have extracted your question properly. You put it inside the text you quoted from me, making it seem like something I said, and that you hadn't said anything :)   (When you're quoting, your response needs to be outside the quote box, typically below, but above could work, too, just make sure it's outside the borders of the box.)

As far as I know the code functionality is supposed to be the same, unless Apple's sandboxing restricts anything. But personally, I would buy directly from Serif given some of the issues I've seen with the Mac App Store and the ability to easily downgrade to an older version if purchased from Serif.

Having said that, I'm not a Mac user, so if there are Mac users who disagree with me they probably have a more relevant set of experiences than I have, personally.

It seems that you have said nothing in that most recent post, @Ali5786 :)

I think I already answered that in response to your first post. Functionally the code should be the same. But if Apple does any sandboxing of Mac App Store applications there's nothing Serif can do about that.

There are some differences in regards to sandboxing on Windows for purchases from the Microsoft Store. I don't know if there are any significant sandboxing issues with the Mac App Store. I don't recall hearing of any.

Still, I would buy from Serif, not Apple, for other reasons.
