AlanPickup Posted March 8, 2020 Posted March 8, 2020 I am not sure how long this has been happening or whether it is intended, but I have only recently started to notice it lately, If I create a shape as a background then add text frames if I accidentally double click or click the shape when it is selected with the text tool, the shape changes to text shape. not noticing this I have had occasions when checking fonts through the font manager found fonts that I was not intending using listed, but locating them highlighted the text frame which contained no text, but had defaulted to the font as the default font was selected when I created the text shape by clicking. AlanPickup Posted March 8, 2020 Author Posted March 8, 2020 Thanks Haakoo, I can see from the help menu that the text tool cursor changes shapes if you click the shape, but when you click again in a text frame without changing tool the shape is converted. Seems very easy to create shape text accidentally and not notice you have done so, do not recall this happening in earlier versions, but lately nearly all designs I have done end up with a shape text layer that was not intended Alan Pickup Windows 11 Home all Affinity suite of Apps PC and Gigabyte Laptop 16gb Ram and Nvidia GTX1660 Super on each.

I'm not sure exactly when, but at least since 1.6, I think. Note that there's a difference between: Clicking on a shape with one of the text tools; or Clicking and dragging within the shape. The first changes the shape to a Shape Text layer. The second creates text as a new layer, leaving the shape alone., Usually if you intend to create either Frame Text or Artistic Text, you will click and drag. That will not convert the shape. -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. AlanPickup Posted March 8, 2020 Author Posted March 8, 2020 Thanks Walt, must be that I have just done a lot of designs with colour background lately that makes it seem out of the ordinary. A lot of the work previously has been using designs saved as templates with the layers locked. Will keep my eyes focused for the changed text tool shape Alan Pickup Windows 11 Home all Affinity suite of Apps PC and Gigabyte Laptop 16gb Ram and Nvidia GTX1660 Super on each.
