Having the ability to now save templates is good news.
I started today creating a folder with the templates I need most often.

But I was wondering why they are so big by means of filesize and how to possibly make them smaller.

A simple business card template, 1 page, 85x55mm, no content or layers, just a couple of guides, clocks in at 1,3MB.
A folder, A4, 2 pages, also completely empty but for a couple of guides has almost the exact same size.

While nowadays a filesize of 1,3 MB is not a *real* problem, I am still wondering why such simple templates have to be so big?
Is there something saved with it, that can be avoided?

Just for comparison: A simple A4 page with nothing in it saved as .indd or .indt has a file size of 2,45 MB, so I would not call the templates big. ;)

Probably the CMYK ColorSync profile

MacBookAir 15": MacOS Ventura > Affinity v1, v2, v2 beta // MacBookPro 15" mid-2012: MacOS El Capitan > Affinity v1 / MacOS Catalina > Affinity v1, v2, v2 beta // iPad 8th: iPadOS 16 > Affinity v2

Hm…

An empty A4 CS5.5.indd without a CMYK profile is 324 KB, with CMYK profile 918 KB.

An empty A4 *.afpub "Print Ready" with CMYK profile is 392 KB, whereas *.afpub "Print" with an RGB (!) profile is 1.4 MB.

Go figure…
