So.Creative Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 Does anybody else run into the same problem looking for an image file on Windows 10? I don't have Photoshop installed anymore, but I could have sworn it was so much easier to tell the file types apart. Now everything is called an Affinity Photo File. There's no way to tell if it's a .jpg, .gif, .tif, etc. even if I hover over it. This is a huge productivity hit. Could anyone suggest a workaround? Do I have to add the extension to the filename now? I miss my Adobe icons. Quote
Staff Callum Posted February 25, 2020 Staff Posted February 25, 2020 Hi So.Creative, It sounds like the default file associations on windows for your image files have been set to Affinity Photo. You can find out how to change them back here: https://www.thewindowsclub.com/change-file-associations-windows Thanks C So.Creative 1 Quote Please tag me using @ in your reply so I can be sure to respond ASAP.

It also helps if you set Windows to show file extensions in File Explorer, or in Windows terminology, uncheck the option "Hide extensions for known file types". Many years ago Microsoft chose to change the Windows default so that extensions were hidden. Disabling that option is one of the first things to do when buying a new Windows computer.
