Publisher: Create a gradient mask

In Publisher, I have a 'graphic' of letters. It is really a text frame that has spaced out letters:

I would like to add a gradient mask, so the letter fade out. I know I can just create a white box, that has a transparent fade and layer on top as follows:

But I would really like to make a gradient mask instead. Is that possible? I know I can add a mask from the layers panel, but I don’t know how to add a gradient to the mask.

Hi big smile

After creating your mask, make sure it's selected in the Layers Studio, then simply use the gradient tool to draw a greyscale gradient across the mask, as shown in my quick screen recording below -
