Holding Space Bar with Selection active issue

Recommended Posts

I've used Affinity Photo for several attempted projects, and the one issue I'm having is the ability to move a selection. I am logging this as a bug because if I make a selection with the rectangle tool I can press the SHIFT key and it will lock into being a 1:1 square, so the action of the shift+drag+select=1:1 square tool works as it does in Ps. Now if I need to move that selection around on the screen, I would normally just hold the SPACE bar and it would enable me to move the selection. Can you point me to adjusting the quick-keys to work in this way, or if this is a bug that can be fixed?

To move your selection area move your mouse cursor into the selection area so that the cursor changes to the move icon then press and hold the mouse button then drag the selection to the required position and then release the mouse button

@Aarontocreate, be aware that if whichever marquee selection tool you use to make your "marching ants" selection is not set to the "New" mode in the context toolbar, this won't work as expected.

One of several different marquee selection tool icons should appear when you move the cursor inside the selection area:

  • move_cursor.png.1a2f3f344a2ce22376d0dfed2e291237.png indicates either the New or Intersect mode (at least on Macs) is selected
  • create_add_cursor@2x.png.0e9ad148f8aba5fbb5f1ca8db7a561b2.png indicates the Add mode is selected
  • create_subtract_cursor@2x.png.a096e39cd377c11be860db9d6e24d88c.png indicates the Subtract mode is selected
