Hi everyone!

I was recently working on a project in Affinity publisher (its very nice), however when I started drawing, after a few strokes the brush pointer will stop working and instead of following the path of the line, it skips to the start and endpoint of the line (I've attached a picture.)

I've tried factory resetting the workspace multiple times, and the problem occasionally goes away. I'm unsure if I'm messing something up or missing a setting?

I'm using:

  • Affinity Publisher in the Photo Persona (the problem also occurs in Affinity Photo)
  • Affinity Publisher v1.7.3.481 (Affinity Photo v1.7.3.481)
  • Asus GU501GM
  • Wacom Intuos Pro Medium

Thanks!

Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, @natcoyote.

That's a known problem with Affinity Photo and Wacom tablets on Windows.

The 1.8.0.526 beta for Photo that was released yesterday fixes that problem, I think. You could install the beta, which would not affect the operation of the 1.7 retail version you have installed. However, the native Affinity files produced by 1.8 will not be compatible or usable with your 1.7 retail version, and technically the 1.8 beta should be used only for testing, experimentation, and play. To use this version of Photo with Publisher you would also need to install the 1.8 beta version of Publisher. I'm not sure the problem would be fixed there, yet, but it might be in the Photo Persona.

A production/retail version of 1.8 (which you'll receive as a free update to your 1.7 version) is probably still a few months away.

Ok, that's unfortunate. Hopefully the fix comes to the stable version soon. Thanks for the help!

You're welcome. 1.8 probably won't graduate from beta to stable for a couple of months yet, but only Serif knows for sure. They seem to still be adding features, and fixing more bugs, that will all need more testing. And they haven't released any Mac beta builds yet, which will probably also need customer testing before it's released as stable.

There is no such thing as "the stable version"

The betas tend to have lots of bug fixes found in the latest "stable version" which is why I use the betas more than the released version for all my work.

Very occasionally you may need to skip a beta if it introduces a new serious bug that makes it more "dangerous" to use than the last one but for the most part, they work quite well.

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.
