HerrJeh Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 (edited) Hi! I recently bought Affinity Publisher. I am currently working on a photo yearbook as an first project. I am currently on page 72 and have already processed about 200 photos. "Affinity Publisher" is still working, but adding new pages on my i5-7200 8GB RAM-Laptop is now very slow and tedious. I am now thinking about buying a desktop PC again and wondering, what a good system would be for similar future projects. I don't need a high end system, just something that works well for Affinity Publisher without getting any performance issues. Any Tipps? Edited December 16, 2019 by HerrJeh Quote

Before you spend your money: Are the photos linked or embedded? If embedded, I would make them linked instead. As a file format I would prefer TIFF over PSD. HerrJeh Posted December 16, 2019 Author Posted December 16, 2019 They are already linked. Linked JPGs. I think it's mostly RAM size and / or the processor could have more power.. Quote
walt.farrell Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 On a typical laptop PC it can also be disk speed, as with actual disks (vs SSDs) they're usually slow models, at about 5400 RPMs. I eventually got tired of waiting for the disk on my laptop and swapped out the disk for an SSD and it made a great improvement. But yes, more memory might help, and if your laptop is not maxed out you can probably install it yourself. HerrJeh Posted December 16, 2019 Author Posted December 16, 2019 I‘ve got a ssd installed (it‘s a surface pro 2017 with 256GB) and after a longer waiting time it is used as „virtual memory“. But placing new content nevertheless isnt drag and drop. it is more like drag and wait 10 to 15 seconds and drop. Quote
