Please add Folder Browse, more file management

Recommended Posts

Affinity Photo is very impressive but needs an important feature:

The ability to browse an entire folder within Affinity Photo, and select and edit all files, individually or in groups, in that folder, without opening every single file individually.

We should be able to hit the "NEXT / BACK" arrow key and instantly move to the next file in the folder.

Nikon View NX-i has this important feature, and Lightroom does too I think.

Very important to be able to edit an entire folder of photos in the quickest, most efficient way.

Would also be great if you included PICTURE CONTROL settings for Nikon (ie. Vivid, Standard, Neutral, Portrait, etc)

Please add this ASAP.

These are features of DAM or RAW development software, not of photo editors.  Serif has already indicated they are working on producing a DAM solution as part of the Affinity lineup, but it will be a separate application from Photo.

I would expect this functionality to be part of that program and would not expect to see it added to Photo.

There is no information currently available about the timeframe in which that new program is expected to be ready.

There is no such image browser facility and as fde101 already mentioned, it's also very questionable if there will be ever something like that implemented for Affinity Photo, since its something which can be addressed in a seperate software product and probably Serif will go that route instead.

Related to Nikon Picture Control, I pretty much doubt that Affinity will be able to support this, as its something more Nikon vendor specific, thus more Nikon proprietary and AFAIK no other RAW converter software (except Nikons own View NX-I and Capture NX-D software) can or does so far make use out of it. Further Nikon writes specifics related to that into its own Exif vendor maker notes.

The "picture control" sounds like it is just the presets for contrast, saturation and the like that most cameras have in their menus for processed JPEGs and such?

In that case, while it is unlikely that the Affinity products will include the exact presets that the camera offers, you could get similar effects by manually adjusting the various settings yourself via adjustment layers, or by applying LUTs, free examples of which can be found floating around various web sites, or available for purchase in various collections all over the place.

With Nikon's Picture Control System, you can share image processing settings (such as curves/levels grid, sharpening, contrast, brightness, color saturation/hue, filter effects, toning etc.) between compatible Nikon cam/scanner devices and software programs. There is an associated Picture Control Editing software available from Nikon, which allows to make specific own custom configuration sets for different shooting situations. Those custom configuration sets can be uploaded to the cam/software and selected/activated there then (via its given naming) for specific purposes of image styles or pre image adjustments for certain studio shooting conditions etc. The cams do process/generate then for example JPG images and/or Movies internally due to those setup/selected configurations. Since RAW files are only flat processed they won't have pre-applied any such possible in cam setup configuration, but their included Nikon vendor maker Exif notes contains all the needed information, so that the common Nikon software can reproduce automatically the exact same used settings just by using the specific configuration.

The whole is pretty handy and used by many Nikonian Pros in order to have the same configs on all cam bodies they have to carry with them. It's also useful for a quick setup of different configs for different shooting conditions etc.

A simple to use and I think more PCS 1 based online tool can be found here: https://nikonpc.com/

However, its something the Affinity software for sure will not be able to support, since it doesn't have any clues about the internas used by Nikon here.
