Working with PDF's - Page Reorder & Adding New Pages

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me how to re-order the pages? I assumed it would just be dragging the layers to their new positions, but that didn't seem to do anything.

Also, what if I want to add additional pages? I tried adding a new layer, but that didn't seem to quite work either.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, JRS.

Which application are you using? How is it organized? How was it created?

Thank you Walt.

1.7.3 Affinity Photo.

I had an existing, multiple-page, PDF that I opened within Affinity and planned to edit the txt & images (no problems there), re-arrange page order (not sure how to do) and supplement it by creating a few more new pages (not sure how to do).

Hopefully I've clarified the questions. Thanks so much for your time.

Jace

OK. In Photo, when you open a PDF file the pages become Artboards, 1 per page.

To reorder pages, in the Layers panel you would drag the (Artboard) layer up or down the stack. Pages will print (or export to a new PDF) based on the order in the Layers panel, bottom to top. Page 1 in the printed output or new file is on the bottom of the stack, page 2 just above that, etc. The layer names won't matter, nor their position in the workspace; it's purely based on their position in the layer stack.

To make a new page, you need to make a new Artboard. However, Photo does not have the Artboard Tool to let you do that. Artboards are more generally a Designer function.

Your easiest approach in Photo to get a new Artboard is probably to duplicate an existing one (select in the Layers panel, then Ctrl/Cmd+J (Windows/Mac)), then give it the name you want, then delete the Artboard content (expand the layer in the Layers panel, select the child layers, and delete). Then using the Move Tool you can drag the new Artboard somewhere where it's not on top of the one you copied. Alternatively you can select one on the workspace, Ctrl/Cmd+J, and then drag it somewhere, then rename it, then delete the content.

It would be easier in Designer (as it supports Artboards more completely), or in Publisher (which is page-oriented), but the above should get you going using Photo.
