SalfingerAndrew
Hello everyone! I've notice for awhile wile working on projects in Affinity Designer that after a while the project file starts to lag/slow down on the 3rd gen iPad Pro 12.9" (no home button version) This includes: Slow loading when opening file Slow loading image when zooming in (along with lag where nothing will happen) Slow brush moments Slow objects moment (can also jump around) And so on Here is a video showcasing the issue (kinda hard to show things thing like lag base on when I move the object and when it move in the app) You can download the video here: http://bit.ly/2WdJK1a within it is a .zip file with two videos, the first showing the issue with the attached project file along with a second video showing the same issue within a second project. These projects are around 2560x1440px (or lager) with a file size of 400MB or more. They are also made with a mix of vector object, raster brushes and image textures (with blend modes) This lag seems to only happen on the iPad and work fine running on Affinity Designer via a 2014 iMac 27" Moving the project over to Affinity Photo, the project run a little bit better but not by much. Tho the objects don't seem to jump around while moving but still slow. Has anyone else had this issue working with files on iPadOS? I've also attached the project file to this post as well. iCloud download link http://bit.ly/2pedhM4 (click “Download a Copy”) Had issues uploading the file to the site. This issue seems to only happen when dealing with AD file that contains both vector, images (textures) and raster brushes, if you remove the other elements and left with only the vector this issue dose not seem to happen. Most of the raster brushes used within the project are from frankentoon. Thank you for your time and I hope you all have a great day. Andrew. Hi @DWright for some reason, I’m unable to upload the video and project file? So I attached a iCloud Drive link to download the file http://bit.ly/2pedhM4 (click “download a copy”) to download the file. Update: here is a link to download the videos (since for some reason It give a error everytime I upload them) http://bit.ly/2WdJK1a Within it is a zip file with two videos, one showing the issue within the project file you can download, a second showing the same issue within another project. Staff DWright Posted November 13, 2019 Staff Share Posted November 13, 2019 Thanks for the files, I have also opened this on the Desktop version and also getting lagging I will see if reordering the layers will improve performance.
SalfingerAndrew
Hmm.. okay, should a project like this normally lag so much tho, since its not really that big? I’ve opened it up on the desktop version as well (macOS) and did not get anywhere near the same amount of lag compared to iPadOS version (iPad version was near impossible to use) Quote Andrew Salfinger Made by Campfire - Graphic Designer W: www.madebycampfire.comE: hello@madebycampfire.comT: https://twitter.com/madebycampfire
Staff DWright Posted November 20, 2019 Staff Share Posted November 20, 2019 The iPad has a limited amount of RAM and with documents with a large amount of layers especially if the document has large dimensions on my iPad i have had to turn off some layer and to merge layers with small objects together to improve performance I use and 1st gen iPadPro 9.7 which only has 3Gb of Ram
SalfingerAndrew
Okay, so this is normal to happen? Kinda sucks having to move the project to my computer to fix this issue but if it’s a hardware limit not much can be really done, since optimisation of the app it self can only go so far. Robbkablabla
Designer is almost impossible to use, I have had the screen lag while navigating the image to the point Im waisting a quarter of my time fighting with it. Half the time I just undo what I just did. Im complaining to Apple to have it removed from the app store. iPad user buy iPad to avoid this, all the app are supposed to work, its like console gaming. Does infinity even test it on ipad, doesn't seem like it. On line i see a lot of slapping them selves on the back for making an award winning app. Joke

They haven’t got the budget or control over the industry like Adobe but only a select few can and want to pay those premium subscriptions.
