Since introduction M1 and latest version of AFFsuite the sluggish first start of any of the three apps was forgotten.... But NOW with either last 2.2.1 apps or last Sonoma 14.1 OS the snail-first-starts have returned ... like McArthur.... Something wrong? (M1 MacBookAir, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD filled only 52%, OS fresh installed, AFF apps fresh from AFFStore). Should I try different render methods: Metal, OpenGL, hardware etc.... Not sure if recently some other users have reported the same issue...?

Hi I've just moved from photoshop to Affinity Photo and would like to keep it this way. How ever i am getting some huge performance issues. I have a brand new Mac Studio with M1 Max & 64GB RAM. I was expecting the app to fly buy it just lags and stutters. So much so im on the verge of signing up for Photoshop again. If i have a 16bit Tiff file open and i try to crop it, it seriously lags and takes me almost 1min to even position the crop frame. Even on other smaller files i get the spinning beach ball while the software thinks about something. It could be Document resizing, filters etc. Is there anything i can do to solve this? Or is this a series of bug issues that will be fixed?

Hi, I have a MacBook M1 Pro with Mac OS Monterrey. I have raw images from my Canon 80D in my Image/ Photo Library/ and in an album. From Affinity photo, I go to File/Open and select my raw image. But then it opens ir in Photo persona, not in develop persona, it created/imported an RGB .jpg image instead of using the raw I opened. In the pictures, you can see the raw images and in Affinity you can see the automaticaly converted jpg file. What is going on here how can I fix it? Thank you.

Affinity Photo 1.10.4 running on OS X 12.1 on an M1 Mac. I've been checking the raw DNG development to 32-bit rgb pipeline in Affinity Photo, and I'm getting a slightly warmer image than when using other raw developers (OpenImageIO tool, DCRaw, Davinci Resolve) which all give me matching results if I develop to ACES AP0. As far as I know, I disabled all image processing on the Develop page to hopefully get a neutral export. It's also worth noting that under the hood all the apps except DCRaw are using LibRaw. Attached is a screengrab in Nuke showing a split screen of the Affinity output on the left and DNG to ACES from the other software on the right. Nuke ignores .icc profiles, but the way I believe AP works for its raw development to 32-bit RGB is it bakes the .icc output profile transform into the image rather than tagging the image with that profile - so it doesn't matter if Nuke can't read .icc profiles. Initially I thought there may be an issue with the pre-installed Apple ACEScg .icc profile selected as the output profile when developing to 32-bit RGB. But if I ignore ACES in AP and develop using an .icc profile with sRGB primaries, I get the same warm tone. I did also download an ACES AP0 .icc profile and I got the same results in Nuke. Just to be clear, that if the files exported with different .icc profiles are viewed in Nuke without taking into account the needed transformation of the primaries, then they look different as expected. When the primaries are accounted for with an ACES input transform for the primaries only, then they look the same (all warmer from AP). I'm not sure if there's an overall issue here where the .icc profiles are baking in a chromatically adapted white point that accounts for .icc profiles being based on D50, where my monitor is D65. Obviously, what I want is an absolute colorimetric transform that is not trying to account for my display in any way. It does seem less than ideal that display profiles are used to do the colour transform when OpenColorIO would be the obvious better choice, rather than only being for preview purposes. It's also possible this has nothing to do with a transform from .icc profiles and there's something else making the image slightly warmer.

I got the new beta version, hoping to see much improvement in it. And while there is some improvement, I am still experiencing crashing. Here is a video to show the crash – It starts with me selecting a graphic I need to replace. I delete the graphic, I go to the Place tool to place the graphic is new. I find the file I want. I place it on the page. It places it on the page 100 times too large. I go to scale down the graphic (an SVG graphic), and BOOM...... "Application quit unexpectedly". Initially the file was using PDFs as the music examples (each music example line was a PDF of the specified dimension for the example), and that file would crash a ton. The 1.9.4.XXXX beta crashed a little less. Someone gave me the suggestion to use picture frames and TIFFs versus all of these little PDFs. So I moved to picture frames with TIFFs. The crashing minimized A LOT, but never completely went away. I have found that if I try to draw a picture frame with a border that the it crashes 99% of the time. I have it crash about 30% just trying to add a blank picture frame. I have shared previous files of this with no one giving me a solid answer, but at the time I was worried about copyright and only shared a cut down version. I am at a point where I will share the entire document (with the understanding that this is copyrighted material, and will be removed and/or deleted once all testing has been accomplished). Hi Affinity Photo team Hardware: MBA, 8 Core, 16 GB, 1 TB SSD Detected by coincidence: No problem, even super fast, are huge 360º panoramas using Live Projection, 27000 x 13500 = 364.5 megapixel Huge problems on same machine with Tone Map of a smaller 240 megapixel ARQ file, from a Sony 7RM4, 16 images pixel shift multi shot, first stitched to ARQ with Sonys Image Edge Desktop, then the ARQ loaded to Affinity Photo, developed by APs raw engine, copy by Cmd+J, then tried to apply Tone Map, what ended in Force Quit of AP after 30 minutes. Checking the Activity Monitor on the M1 during load into Tone Map Persona, there is a huge increase of system activity (the red dots) in the CPU history (press Cmd+3...) but almost none in GPU (...and Cmd+4 in Activity Monitor) history. So I am new to Affinity. I was an Adobe user and recently upgraded to the apple 2021 macbook. I was using the Adobe CS6 suite to do all my design work and photo editing. When I got my new macbook I learned my pre-purchased Adobe CS6 did not support the new m1 chip so was facing the decision to pay a monthly Adobe subscription of $53(USD) per month forever! After 5 years, this would have amounted to $3180 (USD). That just seems so unreasonable to me because I feel I am 'priced out' of trying to design. Cue Affinity, the life-savers! Now that I've been using Affinity, Adobe couldn't pay me to switch back. Smart and thoughtful design + accessible honest pricing. It's also exciting to work with something new and robust like Affinity. This is what design is all about.
