  1. Our Windows apps require .NET 4.7.2 or higher to run. If you're getting the error Installation failed with error code: (0x00000057), "The parameter is incorrect." when trying to install or update .NET on your machine, please follow the instructions provided my Microsoft in the following thread on their support forum: https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/82540fa8-23f8-40dd-a36f-ce82ab4b1b11/net-framework-fail-to-install-error-0x00000057 Alternately, you can follow the same steps in v_kyr's post here ( thanks v_kyr! ): https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/87530-upgrade-to-designer-170-win-fails/&do=findComment&comment=465496
  2. We've had reports from users who see the message This app can't run on your PC when trying to install an Affinity app. This message normally happens when the download hasn’t downloaded correctly or hasn't properly completed, but it can also be caused by third party apps & browser extensions such as AdGuard. Normally re-downloading the app again will resolve the issue but if you do have any third party apps or browser extensions related to ad blocking running, please temporarily close them before attempting the download again.
  3. Unfortunately, Affinity apps do not currently support NVIDIA graphics cards for use with Metal on macOS. Driver support provided by NVIDIA for the Compute aspect of Metal is not as reliable as the current Intel & AMD graphics cards currently found in in Apple hardware. However, if Apple start using NVIDIA cards again in their hardware, we'll look into this again.
  4. When uninstalling our iPad apps your local app folder will also be removed. This means you have the potential to lose your work without knowing. Please make sure that before uninstalling the app your work is saved to a different folder or to a Cloud Drive. You can check where the default Save location is by going to Preferences > General. If this option is set to ‘On My iPad’ this means your work is saved to the local app folder. Please use the Files app to backup all of your documents to a different folder It’s also worth noting that if you have any open projects within the app which haven’t been saved, they will be lost. Please make sure that any documents open on the Home Screen have been saved to a cloud drive or saved to your local app folder and then backed up using the Files app. More information about saving in our apps can be found here: https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/tutorials/photo/ipad/video/284906829 & https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/tutorials/designer/ipad/video/272724251
  5. The video tutorials shown in the Learn section of our website are all hosted on Vimeo. Unfortunately, some countries have blocked Vimeo which means that you may see a blank area where the video should be. This is out of our control, sorry. If you can't access Vimeo, please check out our YouTube channels instead. Don't forget to also check out Affinity Spotlight for Creative inspiration, learning resources and Affinity news. Please Note: We've had reports from other users that Privacy Browser Extensions can also stop our videos from being shown too. If you have one of these installed and you're having issues, you may want to adjust the settings within the Browser Extension to see if that allows you to view our videos.
  6. Our Windows apps require .NET 4.7.2 or higher to run. We use .NET in our Affinity apps for the User Interface. If you're not sure which version of .NET you currently have installed on your system, you can use Asoft's .NET Detector to find out. You can download the latest version of the .NET Framework Runtime from the Microsoft website: https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download
  7. You may have been asked by our support team to try running the app with the No Hardware Flag enabled. It's normally used to see if the drivers for your Graphics Cards are causing your issue. This flag allows Affinity to stop hardware rendering of the user interface, and uses a software renderer instead - which doesn't use your Graphics Card driver. How do I enable the No Hardware Flag? Press the Windows Key + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog and then type CMD and press Enter. This will launch Command Prompt. *Presuming you have the app installed in the default location, type in cd "C:\Program Files\Affinity\Photo\" and press Enter. Now type Photo --no-hw-ui and press Enter - the app will now launch. *If you installed the app to a different location or you're using Affinity Publisher or Designer, please update the location to point to correct folder. There is some more detailed information about running in this mode here

  9. In short, our apps use the CPU to perform complex processing within the app. The more cores your CPU has the better. Our apps will use your GPU to draw the document to screen and to handle the smooth panning and zooming. For more information about this from our developers, please read the following thread :
  10. You may have been asked to provide a crash report when speaking with our support team. This will help them look into your issue further and hopefully allow our developers to figure out what caused the crash. Below are instructions explaining where the Crash Reports are stored on Windows, MacOS and iPadOS: Windows Press the Windows Key + R to launch the Run dialog and enter the relevant app path: %AppData%\Affinity\Designer\1.0\CrashReports\reports %AppData%\Affinity\Photo\1.0\CrashReports\reports %AppData%\Affinity\Publisher\1.0\CrashReports\reports Our crash reports will have a filename that's made up of random alphanumeric characters and will have a .dmp extension. Please send us this file. macOS Open the Console app from Applications > Utilities. In the left hand panel click Crash Reports - you will see a list of Crash Reports. Find the relevant crash report - it should display the app's name in the Process Name column. Right click and select Reveal in Finder. Please send us the .crash file. iPadOS Go to Settings > Privacy > Analytics > Analytics Data You will see an alphabetical list showing all crash reports on your iPad. Find and open the one that corresponds to the Affinity app that's crashing. Click Share to save to an .ips file and save it to a cloud service.

  12. Make the View/Zoom menu more robust and flexible. Compare the zoom menu from Gimp app and Affinity Photo Beta app below. Notice that the Gimp app allows for 16+ possibilities for zooming in and out including the ability to set custom zoom factors. I would like to see these features in the Affinity suite of applications. https://www.gimp.org/
  13. Please consider writing into your next forum website functions, the ability to use colored text and colored backgrounds & highlights.
  14. While you are rewriting the beta versions of the Affinity Suite of applications in preparation for the next retail versions, please consider: 1. Make both the desktop version and the online version of the help files searchable by keywords and key phrases. (provide a search bar in every pane of the help menu files) 2. Produce "fuzzy search" results from any of several possible terms that might be used to search for the same help topic. (ex. A search for Typography, text, verbiage and writing might yield the same search results. or, keyboard, keyboard shortcuts and keyboard customization might yield the same results. (not that these are great examples, but hopefully, you get where I am coming from)) (This way, if a user is not certain how to phrase his/her search, they could still find what they are looking for)
  15. This thread is locked, if you have any installation queries please make a new thread in the Questions forum During the installation of the Affinity range on Windows, the following issues can be flagged. Please see below the descriptions and possible mitigations available. Unable to upgrade applications - "There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package." Aero requirement to run the Software We require Desktop Windows Management Composition, rather than native Graphics drivers. This is natively on for Windows 8 and 10, but on Windows 7 this is most easily achieved by turning Aero ON. If you are not willing to turn the Aero theme on there is a work around described in this post, but any issues when running the software won't be logged unless they've been verified as still occurring with DWM Composition enabled. A more general FAQ regarding the Affinity range including Affinity Designer can be found here in the Questions forum. This thread is locked, if you have any installation queries please make a new thread in the Questions forum
  16. Where do I get support? The best place for asking questions, reporting bugs and requesting features is right here on our forum – this is where we all hang out: · Questions · Report a Bug on Mac, Report a bug on Windows and Report a Bug on iPad. · Make a feature suggestion What are the system requirements? OS X Mavericks (10.9) or above for Mac and Windows 7 (SP1) and above for MS Windows – but you can see the full spec for Affinity Designer here and for Affinity Photo here Is it available to buy for Windows? Affinity Designer for Windows is available to here, and Affinity Photo for Windows is available to buy here and both are also on the Windows Store here. We support 64-bit editions of Windows 7 (SP1), 8.1, and 10. If you have bought any Affinity apps for the MacOS or Windows or iPad and want to run on one of the other platforms also, you will need to purchase additional licenses for those other platforms. Are there trial versions available? Yes, there are free 10-day trials for Mac and Windows available on our site, with Affinity Photo at affinity.serif.com/photo/trial and Affinity Designer at affinity.serif.com/designer/trial. I've used my trial, can I have another? No, unfortunately not. The trials need to be secure to prevent abuse, so even though your wish is for an honest evaluation we cannot circumvent the trial checking built in to the app. If you installed a trial of Affinity Photo or Affinity Designer before, you can only use a future trial when it is updated to reflect new features (1.6, 1.7, 1.8 etc). The customer beta versions of Affinity apps do not offer an additional trial period and only work for paid customers. What is Affinity Photo Plugin support like? We are currently working with some plug-in manufacturers to make their plug-ins fully compatible with Affinity Photo. We will keep you updated on our progress. We would also love to know which plug-ins you would like to see made compatible with Affinity Photo. Do you plan to have Web site design/Digital Asset Management/animation/video editing products too? We’re not sure yet! but we are very interested in adding a DAM solution to the Affinity suite in future. Do you produce apps for iPad? Affinity Photo for iPad is available from the iOS App Store here. Affinity Designer for iPad is available from the iOS App Store here. Do you have any tutorials or handbook available? We have the Designer Workbook available to purchase here and the Photo Workbook here. We also have a comprehensive set of video tutorials, you can find our growing collection here . Due to high design and production costs each Workbook is only available in English and in German, with no plans for otther languages. Are Affinity Designer, Affinity Photo and Affinity Publisher available in any languages other than English? Yes, each apps already includes English (US and UK), German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese (Brazilian), Japanese, Russian, and Chinese (Simplified). Language is chosen for you automatically and you can also change it in Preferences > General. How does the pricing work in different countries? We set the price in USD for sale within the USA, and from there the price shown in other countries and currencies is set by Apple based on a matrix they use. We have no control over that matrix or any updates Apple may make to it in the future. Our Affinity Store matches these prices for Windows to make the sale price the same. Are Affinity Windows apps available to buy outside of the Affinity Store? Yes, Affinity Designer for Windows and Affinity Photo for Windows are available on the Serif Affinity Store and also the Windows Store. Are Affinity Mac apps available to buy outside of the Mac App Store? Yes, Affinity Designer for Mac and Affinity Photo for Mac are available on the Serif Affinity Store and also the Mac App Store. This also applies to educational and other volume license sales — Serif operate volume purchase programs for organisations to reduce costs and simplify distribution and management, which you can find our more about for business here and for education here. Is there anywhere I can download a cheat sheet showing the shortcuts for Affinity apps? Yes there is! You can download a full list of default shortcuts for the Affinity apps in this Affinity Spotlight article (where you will find printable PDFs and also the Affinity Designer source files for English and German keyboards in case you want to include your own customized shortcuts). Can I use the Affinity logo and name for my website/channel/product/service? We really appreciate and encourage activities that support Affinity software so we're pretty fair about trademark usage, but naturally there are limitations. We want Affinity users to be confident about what content is created by Affinity and what is created by third parties, our guidelines in this short PDF (English only) make things quite clear.
  17. Cette publication en français Este post en español Questo post in italiano この投稿は日本語です 这个帖子用中文 Esta publicação em português Это сообщение на русском Dieser Beitrag auf Deutsch (Correct at time of writing) As detailed at the top of our App Store description - Affinity Photo for iPad supports iPad Pro, iPad Air 2 and iPad (early 2017). Please note that older iPads are not supported The Apple App Store hardware "Compatibility" list is automatically generated, and may list some iPad models that do not meet our minimum specification (2GB RAM, advanced 'Metal' acceleration and a minimum 9.7-inch screen). Currently Apple do not allow us to change that information to display the right list of iPads that we support, so it also includes unsupported models (of iPad Air, iPad Mini 2, Mini 3 & Mini 4). Serif would like our App store entry to say this list. "Compatibility: Requires iOS 10.3 or later. Compatible with iPad Air 2, iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi + Cellular, 12.9-inch iPad Pro, 12.9-inch iPad Pro Wi-Fi + Cellular, 10.5-inch iPad Pro, 10.5-inch iPad Pro Wi-Fi + Cellular, 9.7-inch iPad Pro, 9.7-inch iPad Pro Wi-Fi + Cellular, iPad Wi-Fi (5th generation), and iPad Wi-Fi + Cellular (5th generation)." We have requested that Apple modify the store submission process for this to avoid lower spec hardware being listed. If you have purchased the iPad version and do not own a compatible iPad you will need to contact App Store Support staff to request a refund here https://getsupport.apple.com/. then choose product iPad, In there choose "iOS and Applications" and select "App does not work as expected". Then on the next screen choose a method, for example "Report a Problem" Alternatively you can use their (English) contact form https://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html Serif suggest that you use this reason when you request a refund : “Affinity Photo does not work on my model of iPad. The iPad App Store 'compatibility' section suggests that my iPad model is supported by this software, but the minimum specification for "Affinity Photo for iPad" is an A8 GPU or above and 9.7 inch screen or above. Due to the fact that the store submission process does not have any way to exclude my model I did not know it would not work before buying. Serif also say that this iPad App Store limitation has been acknowledged by Apple”.
