  1. Thanks for the encouragement. But I myself think that after so many years on Photoshop I should have, at the least, have had a switch click on inside my brain about that transparency option in my Tiff dialogue box.
  2. Oh I hope so, I felt like an idiot when I read Dazzle's comments. I hope this has not been a wasted discussion.
  3. Guys, we have the answer: after reading Dazzler's comments I decided to check transparency: Problem here is that I have NEVER checked transparency in the tiff dialogue with any of my work because all my images were cut out and NOT flattened, I selected either MERGE or MERGE VISIBLE in photoshop in Tiff format, Flattening a PSD file gives you a white background, but by the Merge options I retain a transparent layer usually called Layer One in PSD as opposed to Background layer in PSD. Now that for the first time I checked Transparency in the Dialogue Tiff box, it placed perfectly in Publisher. I really do not know what to say at this point. Whoops? SG CutOut_1440_01 copy.tif Edit: maybe what I should add is that you all saw the transparency retained without the Transparency being selected in the Tiff save options. Nut now that I actually selected it, it works in publisher.
  4. Unfortunately they only have a cheapy back-street coloured trophy with which to express thankfulness - otherwise I would have clicked on the gold plated one
  5. It's a matter of breaking from a well rehersed ritualistic fast moving super speeding finger hopping magical lightening velocity editing and placing technique from apple photshop to windows publisher. I know it would be better but I am not in a learning mood within that particular context at this moment.
  6. Hi Murfee, Here is a screen shot of my desktop. I can not do anything, move, twist, distort, overlay, curve, wrinkle,, colour, cook, fry or eat it. I think one needs AfPhoto to allow you to actually edit the image. But it is good to know. I always favourite particularly important answers for future reference even if I can not use them now.
  7. Hallo murfee, thanks for your help, I too am half glad this was not my fault. May I just ask about what I have high-lighted Bold in your message. Are you referring to Edit as in AfPhoto? Which I do not have....I forgot to add that I changed the file extension from 'tif' to 'tiff' but that did not work here at all on windows 10. In the meantime the images I need transparency on will be converted to PNG 24 for the time being, at this stage there will be no loss in quality on output.
  8. Hallo, to be honest I am absolutely confused by what peole are saying right now. I just did a careful test with one of my less than charming seagulls. Transparency is NOT supported in the way that I have been used to for 15 years. AfPub may support it ...somehow....but it is not supported in the way that all other programmes support it, IE TRANSPARENT, without the white, that is not the defintion of Transparent. So now what? I simply use PNG and THAT IS SUPPORTED by afpub. This simple file proves it. SG CutOut_1794_01 copy.tif
  9. Actually yes, well almost, an 8x magnifier is what I used to study negatives once, now I use it to look at printed images where one can see pixels, sort of, in fact so close that I can make out individual dots.
  10. Yes I know, I got rid of it after a little experimenting, 10 years of photoshop are in the way and frustration sizzled after about two days. I work fast in photoshop and could not cope with taking 15 minutes to figure out how on earth to duplicate an image without doing a save as, just one tiny example - so I take the blame 97.6% of it though.
  11. Yes I know, but a pdf gets rid of unnecessary data, and that is why its size gest reduced, but it never interferse with the resolution unless you tell it to. My question was about printing at home from publisher, what does publisher do with those extra 60 pixels if your document res is at 300 and your image at 360? That's all. I think I will get my 8x magnifier out and do some interesting tests, I am curious.
  12. So I have a question: If your original img is 360ppi. You place it and do not alter the size at all - but your document resolution is 300ppi, what happens to those 60 pixels, in publisher and at print stage?
  13. I think your approach was better -- I waffle too much, simple straight to the point is how it should be......that's why my family rarely ask me how to do something.
  14. Firstly, what I do know. Convertng a jpeg to a tiff format has no advantages at all when it comes to quality, output and editing. All you do is increase the file size from about 7 or 10 Mb to up to 20 or 40 Mb. There is no point doing this. It has no advantage at all. Changing the colour profile of a document is found in 'Documet setup'. Now what I am not certain about, why would you wish to convert your RGB doc to CMYK? Has a printer asked specifically for this? Or are you printing in-house? And are you printing to a desktop inkjet?
  15. Hi Friksel, I wonder if there is misunderstanding here, if so forgive me, but what I am saying is that all my files in that folder are afpub files, in the sense that I only have publisher, and they are inside a publisher doc. Suddenly, and this had never happened before, when I go to PLACE img, the documents folder loads up as expected, but the file indicated is an Af.Design file extension. This seems odd behaviour, please refer back to screen shots where I can not predict what will appear in that little file extension box, sometimes AfPub and sometimes AfDesign. I do accept that the 3 file extensions are in actual reality, as far as code is concerned, just one file extension named three ways for convenience, but it seems a little odd that this should happen. It is no big deal, I do not wish to make a song and dance about it, more curious to know if this might be a little minor bug somewhere that's all. It won't affect my happiness and joy on this earth
  16. Ah, I looked there before posting, what I missed was that tiny box bottom right......thanks.
  17. That was kind of refreshing to be honest, Lived and trained in Holland for many years, spent first three years banging my head and telling everyone that I would never be able to speak this awkwardly spelt linguistic nightmare, ah now it's a doddle. Funnily enough on many visits to other companies when I opened my mouth some responded in German, have been told I speak dutch with a german accent....Mmm... As for above, thanks Haakoo.
  19. Win 10 fully up to date. Affinity Publisher 171 This has been happening now for a few days. It has never happened before and I am not sure if it is a 'Bug' or not. I do not have AfDesign nor have ever downloaded a trial version....yet. When I go to the PLACE command in the drop down menu the documents folder automatically opens but the option bottom right, as you see on the screen shot keeps changing. It never remains consistent. It always opened with the AfPub option, which is to be expected, but sometimes it decides to open with .TXT, Ok not a problem, but now it sometimes opens with Afdesign? as you can see. Is this a bug?
