  1. I swear I'm losing my mind... I fiddled with this for 30 minutes and couldn't get it to work. Now, on a different laptop and it's fine. WTH? The challenge is the cropping frame size for pictures. I need the dimensions of all photos to be the same, with a frame which is why I used the cropping tool. Publisher handles this more intuitively than Designer, I think. But regardless, The top left photo is the correct size & dimension. The top right photo needs to be cropped (like it's counterpart below it). Because I'm receiving headshots from multiple people, we felt it better to unify them this way for consistency. So I guess at this point I need to troubleshoot my other rig and find out why this wouldn't work. Thanks, all.
  2. I'm trying my darndest to find a simple way to add a keyline or border to photo in Designer. I'm working on a poster with multiple people's headshots, I want to establish a standard size for the picture and either create a rectangle or a cropping curve of specific dimensions and the clip people's photos to that shape. I want a white border on the frame. For my life, I can't get a stroke on a cropping curve to show up. Yes, I could create an additional layer with a rectangle and apply the border to it, but seems unnecessarily complicated, and makes the file bigger and more complicated, Am i missing an easy way to do this?
  3. This is also the case with CorelDRAW (which I prefer over Illustrator). I've been trying to stop using both Corel and Adobe products, but there are a number of significant features in the Affinity suite (including v2) that still cause me grief.
  4. How does this work with artboards? Since the artboard is, itself a group, it makes it inequitable.
  5. having spent literally decades doing mailmerges in MS Word and a couple of older packages, I find data merge cumbersome at best. That said, when trying to figure out how to do it, I rely on the instructions from Publisher. However, they are wrong. The instructions at https://affinity.help/publisher/en-US.lproj/index.html?page=pages/Advanced/dataMerge.html?title=Data merge indicates to use the Document window to open a data source. After much looking around, I discovered the menu item in the Window menu. Managing fields and such is an odd implementation.
  6. I'm looking for the best way to accomplish individual name badges. When designing the stock, just like business cards, I set up a Designer file with a single badge. Then use N-up to print them out. Now, if I have name badges that need to be personalized with name, title, etc., does anyone have a suggestion for the best way to accomplish this? I can mailmerge in MS Word in about 15 minutes, but I'd prefer to use Affinity.
  7. I know this thread's been going a while, but I've been searching how to turn off text frame outlines which I find distracting. Do I understand correctly that the only way to hide the frame is to hide all nonprinting items/guides?
  8. Of course, and that's what I did. However, part of the reason one uses a tool like this is to quickly and efficiently produce something - in this case a calendar. I was simply telling the creator of the tool that I liked what he did, and that he might consider adding this functionality.
  9. Wonderful tool. It would be nice if there were a 3x4 grid available. Since much of what is done is based on financial quarters, having three months across instead of four would be grand! This is still a great tool!
  10. I agree. I must’ve missed something, though. When you reference “combining art boards,” what do you mean? I think the book feature in Publisher is more for book chapters, which goes a long way toward avoiding unwieldy long documents.
  11. I have played with artboards for book covers. I got it to work well enough by using only artistic text and not frame/paragraph text. Exporting the piece to a pdf proved challenging and frankly fiddly but I got the project done. on a different project, I produce a 7-fold brochure each year. I work with the print house to get the page/panel dimensions based on the paper weight. This would be insane in designer with text flows from panel to panel.
  12. Maybe, if we're lucky, they'll add it in an update, although that's apparently a major dot release...
  13. I just purchased V2 and haven't fully explored the new capabilities which I'm sure are extensive. While I don't want to be a fly in the ointment, I was disappointed that 3+ page spreads are still not implemented.
  14. One reason the ability to convert a page to a master would be helpful is guides. You can copy all the elements from a page, but the guides don't copy. Often, a lot of time is spent tweaking guides in real time, so the ability to convert them would help.
  15. It took some doing, but I managed to create book covers in Designer using artboards. Exporting to PDF was a bit tedious, but it worked.
  16. That's nothing more than rearranging pages and not what the OP is about (3-page-spreads).
  17. UI posted on this about 14 months ago. Curious to know if there is any plan to add a nonprinting layer feature. This would be tremendously helpful in creating layouts with guides and other content you don't want to print, but do want to see. The Corel and Adobe Suites both offer this as well.
  18. Nope - it was entirely from scratch Publisher. And today, when I cut & pasted text from the first of a few linked frames, the text that flowed upward was suddenly very large, and filled the frame. I keep getting told there's a problem with my documents, but then it seems like virtually every document I touch has some issue, which makes me point to the program...
  19. I continue to have issue where, in Publisher, I edit text. After completing my edits, I press ESC twice and V to get back to the Move tool. About half the time, this works; the other half, the text tool stays active with the cursor at the last insertion point.
  20. Anyone else seen this? I'm using styles and created a linked text frame to contain overflow. That overflow, no matter where the frame is placed, appears tiny.
  21. I posted the question originally because I find it creates unnecessary extra work. I typically size places images before I get to layout. When I click to place an image, I obviously wouldn’t want it centered where I click. In fact, I can’t think of a scenario where you would. But regardless, establishing a default anchor by clicking one I. The transform panel prior to placing a file seems reasonable.
