  1. Just found when any tool is selected - if you hold alt + "click in the ruler" it throws a guide onto the page at that position. If we could just have the ability to zero* the ruler at will - it would be a hand feature.
  2. PDF/X-… is on the road map. For front end designers it's almost the finished product, to really capture the AI/Adobe market it will have to address the print/press limitations. For print work it's not there yet but I've no doubt it will very shortly.
  3. CMD + D here as well being an old FH user as well. Better still would be a drop down menu in preferences to allow 'migrants' to choose their preferred shortcuts from their old vector app. User defined keystrokes would be even better. S
  4. Can only speak about Freehand - I assume you're talking about AI? Exporting FreehandMX to a PDF and then opening it in Affinity brings everything in almost perfectly. Text remains as one block AND editable. EPS will convert to curves. Try a PDF and see how it goes.
  5. The "transform" panel isn't too bad but needs a bit more attention. The old Freehand transform panel was superb. It'll get there.
  6. "Find in Layers Panel" will do lovely for now. Thanks. Stephen
  7. Any chance of a quick tweak to make the active layer more obvious. When scrolling through 100s of layers - the active layer is easily missed. When an object is clicked - automatically scroll to that layer? Is that possible?
  8. Can we have some "tabs" for setting text?
  9. I sent it to the @support email yesterday. I have had no issue in Quark with PDFs (Tiff/Jpeg/EPS etc) created natively in Affinity - only files that are created from a PDF. S
  10. Quark upgrade produced no improvement. Won't create a PDF using a PNG now - that's more or less all avenues closed. Still can't understand why it would show a Jpeg as having 1 DPI and negative dimensions? Do you think it stems form using a PDF to create the initial AD document?
  11. Yes - I know. I don't do an awful lot of print stuff anymore, but will upgrade and see what improvements there are.
  12. Just used some native AD PDF files. It went through Quark's PDF process and came out the other side looking OK(ish) but I did get the "Failed the PDF X/1" warning. I'll put a few more formats through the process and report back. Stephen
  13. Tony - leave it with me. It was an old Freehand file exported as a PDF then brought into AD then reworked and exported to PDF. Perhaps there have been bugs introduced during that process? I'm guessing though. I'll test with some native AD designs before I get back to you. I realise Quark is a bit of ancient history at the minute BUT if people start to drift from Adobe's subscription model Quark might gain a bit of traction again.
  14. Never had a problem with it to be honest - support never their strong point but it's not an Adobe product which is always a plus in my book. My guess is many of your potential customers might be still using Quark - don't you think this is an issue? So far the only format I can pull right through the PDF process in Quark is a PNG. Affinity is the only App (Fireworks/Freehand/Photoshop/AI) producing files that are producing problems like this. Tiff = 'bad file format" JPG = gives me a resolution of 1dpi and negative dimensions and no preview PDF = terrible preview file + unusable PDF output (see above) EPS = no preview file/just a load of lines + "Unable to create the PDF" I've no idea if any of these files would go through a proper print process but going by the results so far I'd be reluctant to use AD in anything but screen/web work.
  15. Not sure about that - never had a problem before. What's the PDF output from inDesign like?
  16. OK. I've included the PDF exported from Affinity -> imported to Quark -> Exported from Quark with compression set to 'medium/low". Attached Affinity and Quark dialogue boxes. Also included is the preview in Quark showing some very odd colours. Another problem. I've Exported a JPEG at 300dpi from Affinity. Import the .jpg into Quark - the dialogue box lists the dpi as "1dpi" with what looks like negative dimensions?? Once imported the page is blank. See screen dump of Quark's import dialogue. Some odd things happening. Probably staring me in the face. Affinity pdf into Quark pdf.pdf
  17. Not 'Preview' the app - Quark’s preview of the document. Leave it with me and I'll get back…
  18. When I select a text frame - generally that means I either want to move the frame or amend the text. When I move out of the frame - that should mean I'm finished working with the text/frame. I do NOT want to create yet another text frame by default!!!!. 9/10 I want to select it or something else on the page. The whole 'esc' -> V thing is very tiresome. Please give us a way to select the frame - either by clicking on the edge of the frame (tool becomes an arrow/select), by using a keystroke (cmd) or moving out of the frame automatically changes the tool to an arrow. Text selection.mov
  19. I'll check DPI in AP and go through the process again and see what the results are like.
  20. "Help Viewer really slow and cranky." It's OK once it fires up. I'll post up the PDF link when I've finished for a download.
  21. I'm exporting PDFs from AP and pulling into a Quark Xpress doc. All looks good in preview. However, when creating a further PDF for print/screen from Quark (300 dpi) all Affinity's PDFs are unusable. Even as a screen document it's not usable. Is there a way to set the PDF quality when exporting from AP?
  22. I'm throwing together a quick cheat sheet for myself for quick reference.
  23. I think I'm just making a better attempt at trying to break it :) I'm using the "Text Frame" as my default (small pop-out on the tool box) - not really getting the point of 2 separate text frames (Art text tool) - maybe I need to read more about it. Text Frame has the potential to create millions of empty text boxes!
