I used SystemInternals and I finally found out, that it was my firewall (COMODO) which blocked access to certain system DLLs. Turning it off for a while solved my problem. Unfortunately I forgot more details.

Installation always stucks at 16% while displaying something like "Installation of required interfaces" (not sure about this because the installation did not give me a chance to change language to English). In Czech it is "Probiha instalace pozadovanych rozhrani". Even after 30 minutes it does not end up with any error message. I did not find anything in system logs. Windows 10, all updates installed. If I unzip MSIX and run the application directly without installation, it works fine. So I guess nothing important is missing on my PC. I would really appreciate if there were an option to change the language because it is almost impossible to translate Czech messages back to English in order to find help. <Offtopic> As a programmer I just have to say, that the choice of MSIX is generally a bad idea. It creates more problems that it solves. We got rid of it couple years ago. 🙂 </Offtopic>

What version of 7-Zip do you use to unzip the installation file? I have tried version 19.00 (the latest stable) and although it unzipped the file, the resulting files are broken. For example, instead of directories there are several files named "fil_DictionariesFolder_0.0".

It is quite annoying to overcome the problem with the TEMP directory set to another location than the default windows one. It would be nice to provide an installation ZIP file, so we can extract its content to "somewhere else" and run SetupUI.exe from another location. For example from the very same directory in the changed TEMP directory, where it originally fails to run from. :-)

Yes, rebooted. No pending updates. Version 1.8.2 has not been uninstalled yet. Some settings are usually lost during uninstall and install and I just do not want to do that unless it is needed. Sorry for font, set to default size, not bold, I do not know why it is so big. 🙂 Yes, TEMP is moved to RAM disk, but it would be quite wierd if that would be the problem. Thanks for help, I managed to update it finally. I run affinity-photo-1.8.3.exe, but I did not start update itself. It extracted its contents to some folder in TEMP directory. I copied that whole directory right next to it just to prevent it from being deleted after setup would eventually fail. I closed the running installation and run it again from the copy I made. And it worked. 🙂

I downloaded it again but the result is the very same error. Actual file size is 515 947 280 bytes. Both digital signatures seem ok. I run ProcessMonitor from SysInternals to figure out what file/device cannot be opened but I was not successful. Complete log from SetupUI attached. Any ideas? SetupUI.log

The update from 1.8.2 to 1.8.3 fails quite early with "Setup failed". The log ends up with the message: +Creating InstallOperation + Path: C:\Program Files\Affinity Photo\ + WantShortcut: False +Requesting operation: SetupUI.InstallOperation +Switching to page: Operation +Starting MsiOperation +Error: Systém nemůže otevřít zadaný soubor nebo zařízení. +MsiOperation result: 110 +Setting result page message: Setup failed The error message says that the specified file or device cannot be opened. Tried to restart the computer, run the setup with administrator rights directly, but did not help.
