    Hi jimfastcar,
You can use external/NAS drives or cloud synchronised folders for storage, no issues with that. Just avoid edit files opened directly from them. Copy the file to the desktop/computer first then edit it from there.

    Hi Tanya,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums
Go to menu File ▸ Export to save in non-native file formats.

Is it possible to straighten my photo in raw mode? The crop tool does not seem to permit straightening in raw mode.

Hi and welcome to the Forum. Since Apple doesn't offer much well choice, if you have the money I would buy the iMac Pro. With the smallest CPU and 32GB Ram. (The 64GB Ram option comes with an in my opinion insane additional charge.) With that machine you should be good the next couple of years. And Video editing is also possible with ease.
What I also highly recommend is to checkout the iPad Pro. Its crazy how good Affinity Photo works like a charme on it. With the Apple Pencil its I think the perfect combo not just on the go.
    cheers,

Photo performance scales (roughly) linearly with number of CPU cores - so filters, adjustments, compositing etc. should be far better on an iMac Pro.

The initial "open" of a RAW file is only partly multithreaded - so the benefit will be less pronounced. We aim to improve this in future, however.

We also have plans to extend our Metal support to discreet GPUs next year - so this would also help to justify the iMac Pro.

We have ordered 10 core and 18 core iMac Pro units to arrive early January - I'll hopefully have more information at that point..

    Thanks,

Hi guys, a question I could not find anywhere: what are the most relevant hardware components to run Photo and Designer? Specifically:
We all know an SSD is better than a HDD. But how much RAM should we use? The more the better, of course, but is there a limit above it is irrelevant? Such as 16GB, 32GB, 64GB…? Or more is always best?
Regarding CPU. Affinity apps are optimized for how many cores? 4? 6? 8? The more the better? What is more relevant in terms of CPU – frequency or number of cores?
Regarding graphics. Affinity apps take advantage of discrete GPUs? What is preferable, nVidia or AMD? Is the amount of RAM in the graphics card relevant (besides what is needed for a given screen resolution, such as 2K or 4K, of course)? More than 2GB in the card is relevant?
The answer to these questions is greatly appreciated, since I’m about to custom-build a (Windows 10) machine to run Affinity software as well as a video editing tool, and the difference in specs can amount to several hundred euros difference according to the chosen componentes.
