  1. *Fantastic work Kevin - love the Scoutmaster vid (music was a nice choice as well). Thanks for showing a novice still more possibilities with AD (please know - NOT discounting your artistic talent!). -Christo
  2. *very cool, man - nicely done! -Christo
  3. I've tried manually dragging them apart and back to their original locations, as well as searching the 'View' and other main menus but haven't yet found how to uncouple them. Additionally, when I select something from the Color-panel...it 'leaps' in front of the now combination Layer/Transform-panel. I'd love to know the 'How & Why' to this as it may come in handy in the future. But for now, I'd like to return the 'studio' to its original default panel set. *AD 1.5.4 on a MacBook Pro* Would someone please enlighten me? Thanks much, -Christo
  4. ..man, I realized that's what you probably meant about 5 minutes after my question (doh!). To you and v_kyr, the 'Add from Selection' method worked beautifully! Thanks again guys. -Christo

  6. ..will do v_kyr, and thanks. I'll whether that succeeds or fails in case others are experiencing the same. Appreciate your input. -Christo
  7. Considering I didn't even realize that option existed, I can't wait to give it a shot R C-R. Under which menu tab will I find 'Add from Selection'? I'll definitely post the results (cross your fingers for me). Appreciate it. -Christo
  8. R C-R, MEB, et al... I've attached 4 thumbnails as well as the actual file for you to take a peek at (as you have time) regarding the issue/problem I'm having dragging this image into the Assets-Panel. As mentioned previously, it (the image) seems to be sliding BEHIND the Assets-Panel and is not 'registering' as I've seen other images do in the past...causing a vertical blue bar as an indication of where it will be placed after unclicking. Thanks all for your help and input. -Christo CVlogoBlueCropLines_MEB_EDITED_2.afdesign
  9. Perfect, thanks R C-R (about the Asset sizing thing)...that crossed my mind but so do a lot of other things (!). Appreciate it, -Christo
  10. ...simple, just as I expected MEB! Thanks for the walk-thru. -Christo
  11. You're a massive help Miguel. You're intuition is correct, I would actually prefer to stay in vectors so I will go with your first suggestion here. I simply want to be able able to manipulate the flat image. Thanks to R C-R, I now get how you created the 'C' in my logo using Boolean ops, resulting in that topmost single layer...that was the part of your response yesterday that wasn't fully clear to me (my lack of knowledge, no fault of your explanation). You guys' guidance has provided me yet another 'a-ha' moment, and I appreciate it. -Christo
  12. Great info R-CR! (I get the vertical blue bar as well) Now, off to read Miguel's response on Flattening. Have a great weekend. -Christo
  13. R C-R and MEB --- y'all are a tremendous resource for me, thanks. Will be able to apply the info in your responses shortly and am sure I'll benefit yet again. Even though I purchased and use the AD hardback book for beginners, you guys on the Forums account for ~80% of my actual working knowledge of these great Apps. Kudos! -Christo
  14. ...me again - I am determined to learn this software (it's actually been a blast, just have so many basic questions - thanks for your patience) With the help of MEB, Alfred, R C-R, Callum, and MANY others I have learned a lot but am certainly still in the novice category. I have a relatively simple image (1 - 2 layers) that I want to save in my AD Assets-Panel (a custom panel created for this project). I've saved/moved a number of other images into this panel previously with no problem, simple click/drag operation. However, with this particular layer I'm seeing something I haven't seen before...when I click/drag, the image seems goes to go BEHIND the Assets panel and stays there, unseen. No vertical blue-bar appears in the A-panel, and upon release of the click/drag, the image does appear (or 'stick') in with other Assets. Anyone know why I would see this behavior? One additional Assets related query: what is the trick/procedure to assure the reasonable sizing of an image before dragging it into the Assets-panel so that it is not EXTREMELY LARGE when I access it for use on a newly opened image? Yet another basic skill that I'm 99.9% sure I've missed along the way. Cheers! Hope y'all have a great weekend. -Christo
  15. 'morning folks, How can I utilize Assets that I have created and saved in my AD Assets-panel on images that I open in AP? (I'm working with AD 1.5.4 on MacBook Pro, and my AP app was just purchased Jan 2016) Thank you, -Christo
  16. Thanks in advance friends... ...when flattening into a single pixel layer, do I first need to rasterize the grouped layers? Not sure how to do this, i.e, I'm unclear on the steps involved, and the proper order in which to perform them. A brief walk-thru would be greatly appreciated. FYI - I am wanting to manipulate the Flat image (bend, curve around a cylindrical surface such as a large barrel or a utility pole, alter perspective and/or viewing angle, stretch by pulling/moving nodes independently of each other, etc). greateful for your help, -Christo
  17. MEB, thanks again for the vids you sent - I can't say I'm 100% on exactly how you did everything yet but I'm a LOT further along than before I studied them. 2 quick follow-up questions: 1) on the second file MEB (EDIT_2)...I would love to use the simplified topmost layer (white area transparent) but when I try to drag it into my Assets file it does BEHIND the panel and doesn't lock in as an Asset. Simple reason for this? ...and 2) when flattening do I first need to rasterize the grouped layers, the flatten? Not sure how to do this - wanting to manipulate the image (bend, add perspective, etc). I know you must be busy, just answer when you can. grateful for the help, -Christo
  18. Many many thanks for taking the time to explain this process to me so thoroughly MEB. Although I've been drawing/designing for many years, these last few months (bought AD and AP in Jan 2016) represent my first foray into digital design. I have a lot to learn, but have been extremely impressed with all the help I've received (such as yours) from the great folks on the AD/AP forums. This affirms just how correct I was in choosing these fine Serif Labs products instead of going the other direction with Adobe. I very much appreciate these 'personalized tutorials' you created for me in your response. They have helped me to learn a great deal. Sincere thanks MEB! -Christo
  19. 'morning guys/gals, 2 quick questions please (and thanks): 1) in the image below (thumbnail and file attached) you will see a logo image that was originally on a black rectangular background. I cropped the L and R sides to get rid of portions of the background so as to create an even-ish border. How can I get rid of the still-remaining blue lines outlining the original boundaries of said black rectangle background? ...and, 2) in order to distort/stretch this image (logo portion), don't I simply 'convert to curves' the grouped layers then click/drag whichever node I'd like to 'pull' on? My goal is to be able to manipulate the image by independently move nodes to create perspective changes in some cases, or make the image look curved in other cases (as if on a cylindrical surface such as a telephone pole, etc). Does the image/layers need to first be flattened. Big thanks from a newbie! -Christo CVlogoBlueCropLines.afdesign
  20. MEB, Just viewed the video you provided - el perfecto. Won't have a chance to perform the operation til this evening, but this is exactly what I needed. Thanks a ton. -Christo
  21. All the folks I've encountered on the AD and AP forums have been extremely helpful. Thanks for the vid MEB, and I appreciate your sentiment Stuart_R. Really glad I went with Affinity products - I frequently 'preach' to photo/media/graphics friends about you guys/gals. Regards. -Christo
  22. Stuart_R... ...thus far I've tried your instructions #1 - #3 but am obviously doing something wrong. I've only been able to reduce the red background without effecting the proportions of the logo image by manually changing the H and W dimensions in the transform panel, but the logo image seems 'locked' in place, i.e., I do not know how to 'center' it within the new, reduced red background. Sorry for asking what is most certainly a simplistic question, and I don't mean to waste anyone's time. Please know that I am playing around with this on my own a good bit before resorting to ask more questions. I'm just still missing some know-how, trying to learn by doing as much as possible. See screen shot below of my result after attempting apply #1 - #3 from of your original response to my query. Thanks all. -Christo
