  1. I've just been playing around with masking shapes with some new brushes I've been working on. A couple of the brushes show a big white square shape around them when masking, but not when painting otherwise, what would cause this? They're set up in the same way as all the other brushes that don't have this issue.
  2. Is there any explanation anywhere that shows the brush creation process for AD/AP, especially with reference to what all the individual sliders/options affect? I've created a few brushes but largely it feels like stumbling across a particular effect by accident rather than design.
  3. Aw, would love to get this but I only have an iPad mini:(
  4. I did most of it on the fly, directly to AD. The only thing that existing prior to that was the crown, which I doodled to test out some pens a couple of years ago. I was stuck for something to draw, so I thought I'd do a better version in AD, then of course a crown needs someone to wear it, and so on and so forth. Number two of what could turn into a bit of series is attached.
  5. @Aammppaa thanks:) started off as something just for fun, but it's given me some ideas for a story, so maybe one day it could be a book. @peter it's not a font, I drew the lettering by hand
  6. Something I've been working on recently - http://houseofdeadleg.co.uk/portfolio/the-kings-hat/
  7. It does this already, unless I'm misunderstanding something - select the "Show selection in layers palette" in the User Interface section of the preferences.
  8. @jokerat It's all vector shapes with texture added with pixel-brushes. The line work is done with vector brushes.
  9. Hi Lee, Sorry, should've specified, I'm on the Mac version. Not sure if that option is on there?
  10. When I print an AD file, the majority of the pixel layers don't print. If I export and print the jpg/png it's fine, it's just from the native AD flle. Any thoughts?
  11. I'm pretty good friends with the vector side of AD, but recently I've been spending some time getting to know the raster side. I also got a copy of Affinity Photo as well, and so far it's really good. I spent my lunch breaks last week making and playing with brushes, this is the first thing I've used some of them for. Not quite 100% finished I don't think, but we'll see when I get round to doing any more on her.
  12. Sorry to bump an old thread, but any idea if this will be introduced at some point? Applying a raster stroke to follow a vector path (but on a seperate layer) is something you can do easily in Photoshop, seems strange that it can't be done in AP.
  13. A new version of an old AI piece, redone in AD.
  14. Something I've been chipping away at over the last couple of weeks, all done in AD.
  15. I'm not sure 'thats what they're meaning. I'd presume they're referring to the way that the lines drawn with the brush tool (and the pencil tool) don't keep every nuance of the hand drawn line. The bumps and kinks get smoothed out. Sometime's you might want that, but sometimes you might want to keep it exactly as drawn. In Illustrator, if you double click on the brush/pencil tool you get options to change the amount of smoothing applied. For the record, I always keep the smoothing to 0% as I don't want the program trying to interpret what I want to do.
  16. Are you able to export with bleed? Exporting from File>Export doesn't include it, I can't check from the export persona because everytime I go into the export persona it crashes.
  17. It might be that I'm missing something obvious, but how do you show the bleed? Also, it seems a bit strange to create the document, then have to go into document setup to add bleed, it should all be able to be setup from that first screen.
  18. Not really. In the draw persona, unless I'm mistaken, it takes an image and stretches it along the path? Whereas in the pixel persona you can define a brush from a small texture which is then repeated, spaced, etc along the length of a stroke. I'd like to be able to do the latter, but along a predefined vector stroke. Hopefully that all makes sense.
  19. Apologies if this has been discussed already, in Photoshop it's possible to draw a vector path with the pen tool and then to apply a pixel stroke along the path. Is there any plan to include something similar in AD?
  20. A couple of months ago I contributed to Thunder Chunky's "Back to Draw the Future" project. I made loads of sketches and ended up doing something totally different to my usual cartoony way of working, but looking through my sketches there was one I really liked and thought I'd work up as well. All made in AD.
  21. Cheers:) Yeah, a few bugs fixed and a couple of features added then it'll be a full Illustrator replacement.
  22. I've been working on this a little bit here and there, I stopped for a couple of weeks because there was one AI feature missing from AD that I wanted to use – vector distortion/warp/envelope tools. I was hoping to do the whole image in AD but I got to the point where I just wanted to get it done, so I had to skew the artwork for the book cover in Photoshop and place in in the file, rather than just skewing/distorting the vector artwork as I wanted to do. I might do a few more bits like highlights, etc, but otherwise it's fairly much done.
  23. I've noticed that when I open a file containing an artboard all layers are collapsed. When I expand the artboard every single group expands as well, when all I really want to do is see the top level layers in the artboard. This also happens with any sublayer - any groups within that layer are expanded when the parent layer is.
