  1. 1. get a Quadcore (like real quad, not dual core with hyper threading)

    +1.

I notice you said were considering an i7 processor; yes most definitely, and get the highest spec of these that you can afford.  My computer spec is in my signature; I've never had cause to regret going for the (then) "best CPU" I could afford.

As for GPU, my Radeon is pretty "middle of the road" so I think, again, the advice would be "get the best you can afford".

  2. Looking for help with Fuji raw files ( X Pro 2/XT2 )

I suspect the difficulty is related to windows rather than AP.

    Thank you.

I suspect you are right.  If you do a search through these forums you will see that a number of posters have commented that Windows does not display the thumbnails of some or all of their pictures.  In order to do so, it needs to have an appropriate codec installed which would normally come from the manufacturer of the camera.  Do you have any Fuji software, perhaps a utility to allow the download of image files from your camera to your computer?  Is that software installed?  Very often, such an installation provides Windows with the codecs needed to read/create the thumbnails for your RAW pictures.

You know what? Thanks to you, I'm done with this forum, Callum - few things wind me up more than forum moderators who allow trolls free-reign and then blame other people for how a thread turns out.

Keith, by doing this aren't you allowing the extremely bad behaviour of ONE poster to colour your opinions of the whole forum?  Hasn't he then "won"?

Perhaps Callum should have intervened earlier; I wish he had but the situation now is that we are where we are.  I, for one, have very much valued a number of your posts for their insight and humour; I, for one, would be very sorry to see you leave.

  4. ShelleyAlexa,

You've been given the official Serif answer to questions about the release date of Affinity Publisher.  However, PagePlus will continue to fully function for some time yet and Serif have stated that they are likely to release a patch if a future change to Windows renders the program unusable.

However, the question of "backwards compatibility" is rather more fraught, if you mean whether PP files will open in the new APub; on the basis that Designer cannot open DrawPlus files natively, nor Photo with PhotoPlus files, it seems unlikely that Publisher will be able to open .ppp files.  Almost certainly the route to access PP files in APub will be to export from PP as pdf, as it is for DP to AD.  Clearly, Photo can open standard image files like jpg so "backwards compatibility" is, perhaps, less of an issue (unless you have a large number of images stored in .spp format).

  5. "Unsurpassed file compatibility

The best PSD import engine available and full support for SVG, EPS, PDF, PDF/X and FH files means injecting Affinity Designer into your workflow is painless."

@psiclone, where, in that quote, does it specifically state that drawplus .dpp files can be imported to Affinity Designer?

You initially asked about dpp files but then seemed to broaden your comments to include other software/file formats.  Why?

Following a rebuild of my computer hardware I reinstalled all my serif apps, with the exception, initially, of DrawPlus because I rarely used it.  When I later realised I would like to have access to the few dpp files I have I reinstalled DPX5 (the latest version I own) opened any of those dpp files, exported them as pdf and then opened them for editing in AD.  To me, that qualifies as (relatively) "painless".

  6. @B13NFC, I think the suggestion from sduccio made in an earlier post, of attaching here a file that does not export to PDF for you, would be the best way forward.  I know you said it was ANY file you tried this on but at least it might be possible for other users to test whether there is something "unusual" about your file or whether there is something "unusual" about your computers.

What is the actual wording of the "same message" you see when attempting a PDF export?

    Jeff

  7. Hi randes,

I think MEB intended to write "If it can't find common points ..."!  But his statement about "same angle/zoom" is very relevant.

However, looking at your original images there does seem to be some degree of crossover/common points between the two so I would have thought the Panorama Persona should have stitched them with at least some degree of accuracy.  Is it possible for you to attach the actual image files to a post so that others of us can test them on our machines?

  8. I have been unable to display .AFPHOTO thumbnails on a WIndows 10 x64 system regardless of icon size setting in Windows Explorer.  Affinity needs to provide a CODEC for their file format; Windows does not natively support this (or PSD files for that matter).

Photo DOES provide a thumbnail for Windows (I'm also on 10) and I can see thumbnails of ALL my AFPhoto images without problem.   So I'm not sure why you don't see them, especially when you imply you have tried different icon sizes.  Perhaps try refreshing (F5) the folder where the pictures are stored?

  9. Sorry, I thought this was the Affinity Photo forum. But anyway, don't they both have tools/arrows etc. wouldn't they both work the same way???

This Affinity forum covers both Designer and Photo.

As you have discovered, and other posters have pointed out, "arrows" are only available in Designer.  I'm not sure why you would want/need them in Photo but if you have both apps it is very easy to select Edit in Photo (from Designer) and Edit in Designer (from Photo) to have whichever file you are working on open in the other app and so access ALL the available tools of one app in the other.

  10. This thread, https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/35650-missing-previews-when-loading-raw-files/?p=178573 , especially the second post, should provide the answer for you.  It deals with DNG files, rather than NEF, but the principle is the same.

The provision, or otherwise, of thumbnails is a function of the OS, not Affinity.  If you do a search on the forums for "thumbnail" you will find numerous threads, of the which the above is one.

  11. Hello Fivel.

So are you saying that NeatImage 8 does not work as a plugin in Photoshop Elements?  Have you tested it in AP?  When, in AP, you go to Preferences>Photoshop Plugins, do you see NeatImage listed?  If so, it's likely to be listed as "Unknown", so have you also ticked the box in that preferences screen to "Allow "Unknown" Plugins to be used"?

Also, the support forums for NeatImage http://www.neatimage.net/forum/index.php are very useful for directly contacting the developers.  I know Neat is supposed to work in Photoshop Elements so it might be worth your while to post there if you cannot get the plugin to work properly.

  12. Hi.

I'm not a MAC user, but I do have AP and NeatImage version 8.1.2.  I assume you have the Photoshop plugin version of Neat?

In which case, under Windows you simply install NeatImage (to its default location, or elsewhere if you wish) and when you are asked to select the plugin folder you should be able to choose whichever one(s) you have dsignated in AP (via Preferences>Photoshop Plugins).  I would guess installation under OSX should be the same?

Sorry that's a little bit vague but essentially, if you are used to installing/have previously installed any plugins, the procedure is the same for NeatImage as for any other plugin.

    Jeff

  13. OK.  (This is the process for Photo; I don't think Designer has this feature?)

First, make sure that "View>Studio>Snapshots is ticked".

When you have made a change to your photo go to the right hand studio tabs and find "Snapshots" (for me this one of the set of tabs at the lower part of the screen).  With this tab visible you will see 3 icons on its menu bar, 2 "cameras" and a bin.  Clicking on the second camera allows you to take a snapshot of the file as it then is (you will be asked to name it, the default is current date and time).  You can make as many snapshots as you like, I think.

Then if you later need to go back to any of the snapshots, simply highlight its name and click on the first camera.  If you decide a snapshot is not needed to be kept, again highlight its name and click on the bin icon.

    Hope that helps.

    Jeff

UPDATE: Designer does have this feature also!
