"Horizontal" and "vertical" refer to the orientation of the guides, not to the position of what you're measuring. You do indeed use a horizontal guide to measure the vertical distance from the origin to the position of the guide. But the guide itself is horizontal, and that's why it's called a horizontal guide. In other words: vertical guides are parallel to the y axis. Horizontal guides are parallel to the x axis. Every graphic application I have ever used has this convention. Arguing against it is fruitless.

The dimension is the position of the guide with respect to the origin, which is normally the top left corner of the document. Vertical guides go up and down, horizontal guides go left and right. For a vertical guide (as below) the value in pixels is the distance of the guide from the y axis: Screen Recording 2021-05-02 at 00.27.02.mov I fail to see what's illogical about that.

Doesn't happen for me. View - Guides Manager and then click the icon at the bottom of the Vertical Guides area creates a vertical guide halfway across the document. This is in Affinity Photo 1.9.3 using macOS 11.2. Which app are you using, and which operating system? Could you provide a screen shot or video?

There is no uninstaller, and there shouldn't really be any need to uninstall. (But... If you downloaded them from the Apple App Store, then the standard procedure is to start Launchpad, hold down on the application icon until all app icons start to shake, then click the cross in the top left-hand corner of the icon for Affinity Designer. If you downloaded it from the Affinity Store, then you'll need to open your Applications folder, drag the application to the Bin (Trash) and then empty.) I wouldn't expect changing permissions on the application file itself to make a lot of difference. It's possible that you didn't give it access to your folders when you first launched it. If so, go to System Preferences - Security and Privacy - Privacy. Click on Full Disk Access, unlock using your system password and add Affinity Designer. Do the same for Files and Folders. If that doesn't work, it would be interesting to know where Affinity Designer is installed.

Flip Horizontally
h_d replied to Tekkie123's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Try Document>Flip Horizontal, or selecting the layer with the Move tool before choosing Arrange>Flip Horizontal. Both have the same effect. -
I'm not sure if this is an option on Windows, but on macOS you can set fonts as Favourites and then display just the Favourites from font drop-down menus. Toolbar: It means you don't have to scroll through masses of unwanted fonts (which is an issue/bug on macOS for different reasons...) and you don't need a printed list.

Indeed it does - thanks Walt.

I've got that, but I have no Save button if I edit my original post. I can save edits to my subsequent responses to myself.

Further update to original post: This behaviour is repeatable for all tools using the following steps: 1) Switch into Separated Mode 2) Open a document or create a new one. 3) Select any tool. 4) Drag the document window so the status bar disappears at the bottom of the screen. 5) Click on the Desktop to activate Finder. 6) Click on the Affinity Photo document window and drag the window back so the bottom is in view. 7) Status bar info, shortcuts etc are displayed briefly and then disappear.

I don't seem to be able to edit posts in this sub-forum but just to add: neither the L or C shortcuts for the Paint Mixer Brush are documented in the help files.

Affinity photo is blank, except for picture.

Hiya @Danny Boy and welcome! Try pressing Tab - it's a toggle to show and hide the user interface. -
Hits self in face. I was in Separated Mode and I'd dragged the window so the Status Bar was off the screen. EDIT: On macOS 11.3, in Separated Mode, if you drag a document window so the Status Bar disappears off screen, and then back on screen again, the status bar shortcuts are not re-drawn (with any tool the paint mixer) until you switch to another tool. I'll report this as a bug. (And neither of those shortcuts is documented in the macOS Help. I've added that to my bug report.)
