  1. Tried it and if I save as a flattened tif AP returns the edited file to the correct place in LR, great!
  2. I have LR6 also. It will be hard to beat and who knows when Affinity's DAM will arrive anyway; no time soon I bet. I shall try LR6 with AP but it will be pretty useless if it does not return edited photos to the same location as the original. I also favour LR's RAW editing capability. Thus if the LR/AP relationship cannot work in the same way as LR and its plugins (Macphun, Topaz etc) or LR and PS there would seem little point in me scrapping CC just yet - which is a shame for AP is a fine (and getting better) editor. However PS is also pretty good :-)
  3. True, but there is a huge trade off - everything going to jpg is one. That (the Apple Photos/Extensions) workflow is fine for snappers but not so much so for the more serious photographer. Affinity needs that DAM or it needs to be able to work with those DAMs that exist now (LR et al). Basically it needs to be able to act as a plugin to LR, just like the Macphun apps do.
  4. Re 7 yes, but surely they can only do that if AP supports that functionality?
  5. I have several photos where I wish to cut our a selection from each and then bring those selections together as a single image. Is this possible within AP? Many thanks Sorry....... should have searched the forum first. Have found some info on this now :-)
  6. That is disappointing for there is no way that I will migrate from LR/PS if I cannot take my filters with me.
  7. Does that mean the file will be returned to LR and placed alongside the original? That would help big time but it will not match (?) Photoshops ability to return a layered PSD to LR, which is a very useful function.
  8. I have PS CC (photography) and have bought Affinity Photo as I do think it will one day become a viable alternative. At the moment however its lack of integration with a DAM reduces significantly AP's ability to compete wth the PS CC suite. For now I am happy to pay the rental. The development of an integrated DAM is for me very desirable but I am not so sure that the devs see it as a priority. This matter is not helped by the fact that AP does not integrate well with Apple Photos either but that, I believe, is Apple's fault.
  9. I also use El Capitan and have since the betas. No issues experienced here.
  10. There are many similarities and I would recommend you download the free trial and test it out. You will not be disappointed. In my view it is the best alternative to PS out there and it is still early in the version cycle. It has all the functionality you mention.
  11. Thank you MEB. Maybe Apple will get Photos right one day. Until then it is an unloved app on my pc. Love working with Affinity Photo though. The more I use it the better it gets :-) Seasons greetings from the UK Colin
  12. That should make Apple photos more of an option then. i shoot raw and cannot live with the round trip to an extension ending up as a jpg. Matter of interest, if I open a photo stored within Apple Photo with via the Media Browser in Affinity does it open in the stored format or convert to jpg?
  13. As I understand it some previews are just reproducing the jpg that is embedded in the raw file (that is what you see on the screen of your camera). It is not the raw file itself and it is not what you would be editing.
  14. I am with CSP in that the raw preview in AP is not of the same quality as the likes of Capture One or LR for that matter, and I do have the curve applied. Obviously some post processing in the develop persona can improve things but imo the more mature raw editors/developers give a much better starting point and some give far greater control when editing further. As things stand I would only use AP as a pixel editor, using a stand alone raw developer as my first step in the work-flow. In fact I tend to use CNX-D which is Nikons free raw processing software - it excels as it understands Nikons file format and picture controls. All that said, I see no reason not to expect AP's raw capability to improve as development progresses. I am also sure that some perseverance/practice with the existing version would be rewarded with improved results.
  15. Not sure I agree entirely with that. Currently I use Creative Cloud (photography). I get regular updates and some nice apps for around £8 per month. If you look at the price of software such as On One and remember that they upgrade each year at a cost to the user (how else would they make income) then I am not in a bad place. Adobe rents and provides regular free updates/upgrades as part of the deal whilst On One and others sell and maintain the income stream by issuing paid for upgrades. Not so different really. I have purchased AP as given its current pricing it might just make a viable alternative to Creative Cloud - time will tell but they clearly are working very hard on it.
  16. I am inclined to agree. All the established raw converters interperate the raw data to give a starting point. ACR/LR applies Adobe Standard picture controls and the raw converter supplied by Nikon applies the Nikon picture controls. They all seem to provide a "brighter" starting place than AP, although one can of course edit it further. I know little of ArcSoft but if it not applying adjustments might it be reading the embedded jpg data within the raw file?
  17. My take on that is that AP is not yet an established/mature raw editor. It just does not compete with the likes of Capture One, ACR etc (I have no knowledge of ArcSoft). I think the time will come as it is still early in the release cycle but for me at least LR remains my raw editor of choice.
  18. Thanks MEB - I am trying to get away from LR but at present the raw development provided by ACR has more functionality. The rest of AP does petty much all I want.
  19. Editing raw in Develop I have the useful option to use brush or gradient overlays. However I note the clarity slider becomes unavailable which is a shame as it would be useful to be able to paint in some clarity. Is there something I am missing? Thanks
  20. What are the alternatives in the short term I wonder? I shoot Nikon so I could use CNX-D or VNX-i but neither are great DAMs :-(
