Hi Stuart Ord There's a simple way to assign a profile to an image or convert an image to another profile before exporting it. Open the Document drop down menu and you'll find 2 alternatives; Convert ICC Profile and Assign ICC Profile. There you have it. The softproofing function is what is says, it is only a soft proof which gives a possibility to preview the file with particular profile settings before sending it for further use. So, it makes it possible to try different profiles by adding proof layers and switching between them to find what suites best. Personally I do not know what real purpose that would serve as one normally uses a specific icc profile for one's own printer/paper combination or for a commercial printer or photolab. It's not a question of fiddling between profiles but fixing a managed and reliable colour consistent workflow on which one can rely on. If there's a need to serve a plethora of partners with different profiles, then the best way is to assign/embed a specific icc profile to each image file. To my knowledge the soft proof layer will be discarded when the image is flattened or exported which means the image will stay in its original colour space and profile. As far as I can say, the normal procedure is to embed the profile into the image file and it will be recognized by all major image retouching softwares. In case of a mismatch between the file's profile and the photo software's default working colour space, the software should ask what to do with the file; should it keep the original profile or change it to that particular computer's colour space. Hi OldHickory30 Sorry to butt into your discussions, but for me it looks like there are two separate things being discussed here. In the AP Preferences there are all the settings to choose how AP handles colour for Images opened into the software ie. how it treats the embedded profiles on cases of mismatch, how it converts rgb to cmyk etc. Print settings are set in the print menu and there if you print with profiles you should use ColourSync which is part of the OS. All settings are OS level settings and paper profiles or print profiles will be piukee up from the ColorSync folder (installed with the printer software or dowloaded from the paper manufacturer of commercial printer or lab). Image Canon be converted to those profiles or embedded with them before sending for further processing. If one does not want to print with profiles, then there is the possibilty to use the printer driver's features which means no ColorSync and colour accuracy will be a big guess. The thumbnail you attached shows only standard sRGB colour space, standard CMYK conversion parametre and renderöinti intent. Vieuxjeux

Hi Soulartist I checked the colour gamut as well and noticed big out of gamut areas which print well on my Epson 3800. For an image retouching software the colour accuracy is the first and most importants thing to have right. It is no wonder that the established companies have spent years to fine tune their colour computers. I have also calibrated my iMac display and it forms a good and reliable part of my colour managed work flow. Vieuxjeux

Hi fmlfoto So did you download the ProPhoto.icc from the link that was in n'y first post? It seemed to fix the problem for "MikekPhoto". But not for you, is it? And I fully agree on what you say about using DX lenses and shooting JPG etc. Vieuxjeux

Hi Soulartist I have an iMac27/Mavericks and an Epson 3800 printer to print hight quality colour images on various fine art papers. I print my images from Lightroom with appropriate paper icc profiles downloaded from paper manufacturers. I use AP just for retouching which is not possible to do with LR. But as your question interests me I did a simple test. I opened a LR developed raw image to AP and printed it on Hahnemuehle Photo Luster 260 g paper selecting the print setting appropriate to the profile (see the attached image). I then printed the same raw image directly from LR with the same settings. A big surprise was that the images did not look exactly the same. Why is that, I cannot yet say. I will have to do some more testing. Then I SoftProofed the image on AP with the right paper profile and it looked quite similar to the LR image (AP creates an adjustment layer for the profile). I do not undertand where the change of colours happens as the same paper profile was used for both prints and the same ProPhoto working colour space was used both in LR and AP. Also, the colours were managed by ColorSync and by the printer. Perhaps it has something do with the gamma settings in each program? For me this is just an indication that I shall continue printing from Lightroom as it provides far superior print handling posibilties ans quite reliable soft proofing as well, at least for now. vieuxjeux

Hi Madame! I wonder, did you have the original and the virtual copy/copies grouped together and was your original perhaps not numbered as 1 in the group? Maybe that was the reason they were all sent down in the library. Sometimes LR reorganises the order of original and copies. Vieuxjeux

Hi, I hadn't noticed this before, so it's good to know. I agree that EXIF info is paramount in organising one's photo library. However, this problem occures also when scanning old negatives or prints. In LR they get the date of importing the photo which of course has nothing to do with the date when the photo was originally shot. It's a continuing headache with non digital camera images. In the case of existing digital camera image files (including EXIF data) there's one way to solve this problem. I know its a bit awkward but that's what I've been using in cases Madame just evokes above. In LR I open Metadata menu and there Edit capture time. I'll search for the original in the Library and look in side menu the "Date time of original" and enter it in drop down menu Edit capture time. (see the images attached) It a bit time consuming and obviously something we shoudn't be doing but let's wait for a fix. vieuxjeux

Hi MikekPhoto Glad to be of help. I had exactly the same problems but now they are gone. The ProPhoto.icc sits nicely in the right folder and is shown on AP's list of colour profiles. And it is set as a default. I do not know what has changed with the profile they provided, but it works and that's the main thing. I'd be curious to know, though, what was the problen (provided I would understand it). vieuxjeux

Hi MikekPhoto I also had persistent problems with ProPhoto.icc profile. Sometimes it was visible, sometimes not. Also I was not able to set ProPhoto as my default working colour space. When I downloaded the AP 1.4.1 version 4 it was supposed to fix that. However that was not the case.The problem was only solved when I got a download link from a person called "Leigh". Here's the link to the ProPhoto.icc I received and downloaded from: https://www.dropbox....oPhoto.icc?dl=0 I installed the profile in Library/ColorSync/Profiles and voilà! Hi, just a clarification. The file being NEF is irrelevant. It's the bit depth that causes the problem. So, regardless of the image type (tiff, jpg, NEF, RAW2) the change from 8 bit to 16 bit loses the preview image or whatever is the cause for files not appearing properly in the Finder or LR Library. vieuxjeux

Hello! I've already posted questions about this problem several times without any real feedback. I'll try again. When I open a NEF image from Lightroom 5 (I tried LR 6 as well) with "Edit in 16-bit mode/ProPhoto" in AP 1.4 and then export it with layers as a PSD file, the preview image is missing. This means that: in Finder the image will be black in Lightroom Library the image will be white. If I do the same but open the image in AP in 8-bit mode everything is OK. My colour space is ProPhoto (that finally works ok). Does anyone have the same problem and possibly a solution to fix it? My previous posts concerning exporting PSD files properly have given me the impression that I am alone with this problem. However, it took me some time and effort to find that the problem is caused by the bit depth of the image. Help finally needed or, sad to say it, I'll send my AP to trash... vieuxjeux

Hello Leigh Good news. The new ProPhoto.icc I downloaded from the link You provided seems to work just as it should. The problem was that the ProPhoto.icc was sometimes visible, sometimes not. I could not find any logic behind the funcion. Now my tests so far indicate that ProPhoto stays the default colour setting all the time just as it should. Thank you for Your help. I appreciate it. Hi DWright or Darren, I've already but sent several samples and setting info but now I've created a new set which I hope shows what works and what doesn't. Attached are 7 IMAGEs which I explain below. EXPORTS FROM AP 1.4.1 Beta v2 IMAGE 1: Exported as PSD. PROBLEM. The preview is missing so it shows black in the Finder and white in LR Library IMAGE 2: Settings used for IMAGE 1 export IMAGE 3: Optional setting for IMAGE 1 export AP NATIVE FORMAT IMAGE 4: IMAGE 1 saved in AP native format IMAGE 5: IMAGE 1 in AP native format opened in AP 1.3.5. NOTE: the originally red outline of text box has changed into yellow?! There's a bug or the AP 1.4 is not downwards compatible with AP 1.3.5 AP 1.3.5 IMAGE 6: IMAGE 5 exported from AP 1.3.5 as a PSD file. It is OK except the colour change. Hello, I am not able to export PSD format correctly from AP 1.4 and 1.4.1 Beta. More often than not the preview image is missing so that I only get black image in Finder and white image in Lightroom Library. There's confusion with settings between versions 1.3.5 and 1.4.x. I've asked this before but haven't receiced help. If this continues I will stop using AP and use other means to handle my images. That would be a great pity as the software is good and versatile and has big potential. I fully understand the problems with developing new software but colour management and PSD format compatibility are such fundamental functions that I cannot work without them. Regards vieuxjeux

Hi, The latest AP 1.4.1 Beta 2 was, according to the specs, supposed to fix the problem with ProPhot.icc. I've been trying to select ProPhoto as my default working colour space and set AP to warn if image opened is in other colour space. My ProPhoto.icc is located in Library/ColorSync/Profiles. When I open in AP the Preferences/Colour Profiles there is no ProPhoto. Why is that? This problem applies also to previous versions on AP. I've also checked the AP Resources folders for each AP version and there are no ProPhoto.icc files. Please inform me how can I solve the problem. This in not the first time I'm asking help for this, but haven't received answers to my latest posts. ProPhoto colour space is important for me to get the colour accuracy I want. vieuxjeux

Hi Herbert123 Thank's for Your comments. Interesting findings. I jus wonder why the preview is missing. I took the screen captures of my export setting from AP 1.3.5 and 1.4 respectively. The settings available in those versions are not the same for some reason. It is not possible to select same settings I've succesfully used with AP 1.3.5. Settings in IMAGE 5 export succesfully and images show in Lightroom and Finder properly. Settings in IMAGE 6 produce black image in Finder and white image in LR. If someone could explain me why the settings differ between the AP versions! vieuxjeux

Hello, I raised the subject about a month ago and I'm still having the same problem with exporting layered files from AP 1.4. It worked well with AP 1.3.5. Anyone else having this problem? Attaches are 4 files to show the problem and look into the files what is wrong and what are the differences between. IMAGE 1 is a file exported from AP 1.4 and it shows black in the finder and white in Lightroom library. IMAGE 2 is the same image opened in AP 1.3.5 and exported as a PSD file. It's OK. No probleme there. IMAGE 3 is again created in AP 1.4 and exported as PSD. BIG SURPRISE, it is OK!!?? Why is that? IMAGE 4 is the screen capture to show how those files appear in Finder. I haven't added a capture to show the LR Library image, but instead of a black rectangle it is white. If I'm doing something wrong, please tell me. Switching between AP versions to get things done is quite frustrating. Hi MEB In the AppStore button it says INSTALLED and it is greyed, son active. Clicking it does nothing. Yes, I deleted all Affinity versions from my Programs folder and emtied the the Trash. Then I deleted the com.apple.appstore file to the trash and emtied the trash. I started AppStore and looked the installed apps. Affinity was stillin the state of having been INSTALLED and nonactive. No change to how things we when I first signaled this problem. I did everythin twice. Now I've reinstalled AP 1.4 and the Beta. When trying to start the Beta I have a message that a purchased version of Affinity must be installed. So, whatever I do the situation does not change. Frustrating! Perhaps you could also comment on my previous post about exporting PS files or should I start a new discussion about that (already started before). regards vieuxjeux

Hi MEB I forgot to mention that when You asked if there were functions that were workin in 1.3.5 and not working in 1.4. there's one serious problem for me. I'm not able to export layered files in PS format with 1.4. I've signaled that before. I'm sure you can find my post. I sent some sample files as well but haven't seen any comments on that. The only way I can export in PS format is by using the 1.3.5. If there's a trick with export setting, and I'm doing somethin wrong, please let me know. regards vieuxjeux

Hi MEB, I followed the procedures You suggested but I'm sorry they did not help. I even rebooted my Mac twice and each time before that deleted the com.apple.appstore file. The situation is still the same, when I'm logged in the AppStore and look at my purchased apps, it shows that I have Affinity installed and the text is greyed and nonactive. I have no answer yet from Apple support. They promised to contact me in 48 hours... Hope You can find other things to try out. I haven'n yet tried to installe the Beta because I'd like to get this thing sorted out first. What bothers me is that the Beta version would finally allow me to use ProPhoto as my default working colour space. As you know, this is not possible with current released versions. Madame, I fully agree with you. Usually scam mails contain numerous writing or grammatical errors so that they are easy to spot out, but the one I showed was skilfully made and looked quite Apple-like. And You are right, all trusted companies who handle transactions do not send e-mails for verifying. Baringa, I share your concerns. Perhaps I can add a few thoughts about backup stategies. I have everything (files, programs, system, photos) saved in at least 2 or 3 copies in addition to my Time Machine backups. For that I'm using Chrono Sync software. It keeps track of my added and deleted files and syncs them on external disks separete from my Time Machine backup. It also syncs one backup disk to another. On my internal HD I only have the Mac OS and programs and Lightroom Library, its Settings and backup files. All other files are on 3 external disks. LR library folder and its contents are syncronized to two ext discs. All my photos are on one ext disc and they are syncronized to another ext disc. Should any disc crash or fail I would have at least one working copy left. In addition, should my iMac crash and I would have to take it to a repair shop, I can have my mind in peace as my Mac does not contain any personal data. As you notice, I do NOT trust my files to be saved in a cloud service. My paranoia... To keep the data on internal HD to a minimum helps also to keep the disk in order and compensate on the relatively slow speed on the HD. I'll certainly let you all know if there will be a solution to the App Store problem. Regards vieuxjeux

Hello Madame, barninga and MacGueurle I'm sorry to see that You, barninga have now joined me in the same boat. I took your advice on how to log in/out of AppStore. Curiously enough I haven't had a need to do that before on my iMac. It has been more of a routine on iPad. So, back to the point. I was not logged into my count while I was having these problems. I then logged in and out with no positive result. AppStore shows that I have AP installed, and as I said before, even if it wasn't installed. This indicates to me that the problem is at Apple's end. I reported the problem to Apple using the link provided by MacGueurle and am waiting what happens next. A good thing is that this hassle does not prevent using the AP but it may cause problems when there will be available the released version 1.4.x. I wander if it will be possible to download that update from AppStore. I will also keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. This may not have anything to do with the problem in question but I have received 2 or 3 times an e-mail from Apple (or "Apple", I cannot be sure) saying that I have a problem with my Apple ID and that I should verify it by clicking a link. Chère Madame, oui ! yes I have a virus protection and also a VPN software running but neither of them has previously caused any problems. However, it's a good thought and I'll check on it. You never know... I'm not exactly sure of what You mean by logging in or out of AppStore as to my understanding there is no similar logging functions as with iPad for instance where on can really log in with the Apple Account Id. On my iMac I've just launched or quit the AppStore and that I've done many, many times in this progress without any effect. I've also restarted the Mac several times without any help. Perhaps I've forgotten how to access the Apple account? Sometimes my memory makes me tricks. Affinity Photo shows in the list of my purchased programs and it is labeled as "installed" even if I've deleted the software. Previously when I've deleted something I had purchased I could reload it but now it is not possible. To me that indicates that AppStore is NOT really checking what is the real status with my Mac but relys on history. And I still do not understand why was it possible to install the Beta on my Macbook Pro. There cannot be any licencing problems as I am allowed to install software with the same Apple ID on several Macs.

After having read the latest comments I think something is missing. Should Affinity developers come out with a DAM capable of rivaling with Lightroom, that software should also be capable of accepting all the LR edits to the raw files that are saved on the Sidecar files attached to the original raw files. I think that a large majority of LR users have opted for the raw file + sidecar combination. And of course importing an entire Lightroom library should maintain the file structure and all the keywords and labels (stars, flags, colour markings, geotags etc.). Quite a development task with huge risks. There would be no problems for those starting from a clean table but for the rest of us and for serious photographers the change from LR would be perilous. So, let's hope AP developers wil improve the integration between AP and LR.
