  1. Hi, MEB, Thank you.

I'm afraid I did not express myself clearly.

I've tried the mask. In fact, I've tried all available shadings of gradient (e.g. Linear,Elliptical,Radial, etc.)

None of them get me the result I would like.

To achieve the this, I would have to create 4 separate masks, one for each of the 4 sides of the picture.

Quite a labourios way of getting there..... See attachment.

The left one is the result I'm after, the right one is what I get with the presently available shadings.

Would the addition of a rectangular shading be helpful, you think ?

  2. Has anyone else experienced this behaviour of the mouse in Affinity Designer Photo Beta  v 1.2.0.24974

The mouse freezes and stays frozen for half a second, when clicking on menu items, buttons etc.

then it releases and the requested action is performed.

It also happens upon startup, when clicking the "close" button of the welcome screen.

Coming from Windows, I am not familiar with how an iMac handles available RAM and/or system resources,

but in Windows this was a sure sign that there weren't enough memory/system resources available for the task at hand.

Judging by the configuration of my iMac, however, I find it hard to believe this could be the cause.

Hence my question : Has anyone else experienced this behaviour ?

It doesn't happen in Aff Designer, either in v 1.2 , nor in the Beta version.

It also didn't happen in earlier AFP Beta versions.

    iMac configuration:

    iMac: 27", iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014)

    3,5 GHz Intel Core i5

    16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

    AMD Radeon R9 M290X 2048 MB

    HD : 1.2 TB

    Yosemite 10.10.3

    Magic mouse

    Aff Designer Performance settings:

    RAM usage : 5524 Mb

Dis usage warning at : 31744 Mb

    Undo limit : 50

    Autosave : 300s

    Use hardware Open GL selected

  3. Dave Harris & A_B_C : Thank you both for the clarification.

Coming from (Windows) Corel Draw & Corel PhotoPaint, I guess there are still a lot of things for me to get used to in AFD as well as in AFP.

Not forgetting the Mac evironment, of course.

Needless to say, all applications have their pro's and con's, as well as their peculiarities, just look at all the posts that refer to

    Adobe products.

However, I think that certain pro's in other products, were they adopted in AFD & AFP, could well make them both an even stronger competitor than they already are..

Having said that : In Corel Draw & Corel Photopaint, the path and the text could be separated at the user's discretion, as would shadows of objects.

You would not be stuck with additional layers, they would simply be turned into additional objects on the same layer.

Again, thank you both for your interest in the matter.

    C.L.

  4. I want to create a logo

I created an ellipse, adjusted fill & stroke,  turned it into a text path, typed the text, and made various adjustments to the text.

When finished, the stroke as well as the fill of the finished logo has disappeared.

How do I keep the fill and stroke as I originally set them at the beginning ?

See attachment. The top is the path & text as they are at the end, the bottom is the fill & stroke as I set them originally,

and as I would want them at the end product.

Thank you for your explanation in advancce.

    C.L.

  5. After numerous Beta versions of both AFD and AFP, and many requests from users, and just as many promises to implement it ;

it still hasn't happened : a moveable zero point on the rulers.....

A real pity, for it is such a fundamental feature when in the process of designing.

Just think of the old-fashioned drawing boards.

Where would we have been if the arm holding the rulers would have been immobile ?

Same principle, really : move the zero point to whatever position you want.

I certainly hope you guys will find the time to program this in.

In the mean time : you're doing a great job !

  6. Very likely I'm doing something wrong, but when I mirror an image with the mirror filter,

    the results are rather unexpected.

    Here's what I've done:

    >File New

    >Paste image (small, square)

    >Select image

    >Mirror

The result is a huge vertical gap between the original and its mirror.

The selection handles that encompass the total image (original+mirror) show a very, very big longitudal rectangle.

I've tested this several times, the results are very eratic:sometimes the image even extends beyond the document.

I have posted this question a few days ago, together with an example, but so far I've not seen any reply.

I imagine you guys are extremely busy, but I'm just so darned curious as to what is going wrong.

Is there a trick to mirroring ?

  7. I have tried out the mirror filter function.

    Here's what I've found:

When mirroring an image, the behaviour is very eratic.

I have tried several times and each time the mirrored image:

    1. Had a huge gap between the original and its mirror

    2. This gap could not be closed, because the original and its mirror are one.

    3. Moving the image, once mirrored, goes jumpy, the image makes huge vertical jumps, not horizontal.

    4. Sometimes there is one gap and the mirrored image is smooth against its original

    5. Fading the mirror (Layers,Fade Mirror) produces a sharp edged grey rectangle, not a smooth fading  transistion to transparent.

    6. The original and its mirror are one, they cannot be separated. If they could be separated, the user could close any gaps.

I'm running AFPBeta 1.1.2.24443, on an iMac 27", 16Gb RAM

    BTW:

Attaching the sample file in afphoto format (11Mb) produced an error message: Error You aren't permitted to upload this kind of file

So instead, here's the file exported as jpg. Hopefully you can still reproduce the behaviour.

Forum states I'm allowed to upload 194.67Mb of files (???)

  8. The method described works for me.

It seems though that there should be another way to achieve the same result, judging by MEB's answer.

Haven't found out how, yet, though.

BTW : I've had Aff Designer & Photo both crash quite often, especially after doing some editing, retracting, and editing again.

Does anyone know whether sending in the crash report to the Developer's team would do any good ?

  9. I'm running Yosemity 10.10.2

I read the linked-post in your post above,

It's now clear to me why It didn't work :

The file has to be in .afdesign format.

    Mine was in  .jpg.

    Thank you (once again).

    B.T.W.

As an avid reader/user of the forum, it seems to me that many of the "problems" people run into,

do NOT have to do with the functionality of the application, but more with the "HOW TO".

In the end, the questions asked are usually always solved by you guys with a "How To" answer,

which is mostly a quite simple way of doing things. And that includes your answers to my silly questions.

Therefore : Might it be an idea to include some basic How To examples in the online Help file, which in itself, is pretty good, albeit basic.

    Thanks,

    C.L.

  10. Running Aff.Designer Beta 1.2.0.24229 and AffPhoto Beta 1.1.2.24216

When trying to edit from AFDesigner into AFPhoto, I get a message

"Failed to launch AffPhoto. The application was not available"

Is this feature not working yet between the Beta versions?

Or is it not working, period ?

Because when I try to edit something made in AffDesigner and edit it in Photo, I cannot edit in Photo,

because the Edit in Photo line in the menu is greyed out.
