On the other hand, the TOC styles are easily edited if you don't like something in them.
And you can always start a new document, copy some of your text into it, create a TOC, and see what the original auto-generated Text Styles looked like.
Hi Walt,
thanks for your reply. It's (as usual) optimistic, that there is a solution for my problems.
This time I have to disagree. I don't want solutions. I want proper UX and UI. When I want as many TOC's as I have sections to share ONE set of styles it means that I should get it. If I want to delete ANY or ALL of the TOC styles it means that I should be able to. When I set some of my hyperlinks point to the SAME anchor it means I should end with ONE hyperlink displayed in my hyperlinks panel instead of bazilion iterations. And so on, and so on…
Sorry for bitter tone, but I think it's not only me who thinks this way.
Best regards,
Tomek

If you are talking about ToC Paragraph and Character Styles then I am not sure we can.
Thanks @Old Bruce.
I am sure I can't.

After some initial problems I have almost fished a 124 pages, 600+ images, 4 sections, well structured book (styles, layers etc.). "Almost"means unresolved ptoblems with TOC and hyperlinks. In this post i have only one question: How to get rid of the TOC formatting garbage remaining im my book from several versions back, and after clearing all the visible remains of them? No PDF bookmarks this time, fortunately;-)

Sure it does;-) Thanks to you and @walt.farrell

Hi, Walt
I take the Help document seriously. This is a screenshot from Help just where my quotation comes from. I didn't even try what you suggest after reading that…

I wish I could. It is a very useful feature…

What I really would like in AP is a very useful feature in competitor's interface: Color coding of master pages which lets you see in a glance which master page was applied to pages. This shows up in pages panel.

Your answer is prophetic;-), together with @Old Bruce posts. I switched to Checkered Board some time ago, but didn't connect it with unpleasent icons appearing…

I am pressed by deadlines, so I can't go deeply into it now. In many versions of this document, the problem was persistent.

As I have said before, if there is nothing in a (Layer) layer then you will see nothing in the thumbnail.
Bruce, I think you misunderstand me. I have nothing against seeing miniatures of content of the layer. I strongly oppose random appearing of strange folder icons , and other with tranparency indicated. In my right example both emtpy and populated layers behave correctly. So are also two global layers (one nested in other)

Plain layout means layers inside a layer, to organise the layout of the publication. No suffix, sorry.

@tomek_Q, what initial file type do your layer panel's thumbnails represent?
Well, plain layout type. Some of them are to hold images, some text, some another nested layers

*Note the Capital L Layer as opposed to the lowercase l layer.
I must go back and open that particular file, but this sounds enough crazy for me

Thanks for the movie, @anto . In my case, there was one image with wrap set, but after recomposing it did not change anything. Still searching;-)

It is still there. Many people would bet serious money that the ghost frame is still there.
Well, you would win. And @Dan C would win. And @walt.farrell would win. Only @tomek_Q would loose. It's still there

Another trick I have found useful for fixing odd/bad behaviour with ToCs is to alway use a separate set of text frames for their use, exclusively.
That's the way I'm usually working. I mastered that technique during twenty or so years on the ID side of the field;-)

This is standard behaviour for a TOC
So, to avoid a mess, but still have a proper TOC in the PDF file I should generate one in Publisher with the PDF option ON only at the very end of the production cycle?

Fortunately I don't have serious money. But I will let you know if (and when) it reappears;-)

I did not put anything of this size and posisition on my masters. As I wrote to @walt.farrell my guess is that a formerly linked text was now fully accomodated in one frame, but there was som invisible lefttover in the ghost frame. After enlarging a fraction one of the frames which had also red dots the ghost frame disappeared I hope for ever…
Interface in Layers Panel confusing…
