  1. Hi guys, 1.9. - good update but unfortunately still missing things that have been talked about here so many times... Search function in Preferences is still totally unusable, for example. Well, let's cross fingers for 2.0. Anyway - could you guys make UI elements actually visible for human beings? Now I'm talking about those too tiny buttons for switching Fill and Stroke and to disable one of these. Check screenshot. I myself have a pretty good eyesight but I have to click at least twice or three times because I just cannot hit the right spot. These two elements could easily be twice as big to fit the overall design. Thanks!

  3. Thanks for the info. I guess I'd love to have all the books updated to the latest version 1.9 but I presume that no one knows when the new print run will be issued. Since Publisher book should be available on Monday I will wait till then. BTW - will we be notified before the Black Friday deal expires? 😉
  4. Hi, I've been working with Affinity apps for a long time now - but I'm still considering ordering the books. I read somewhere that Publisher book will be updated for version 1.9. How about the other two books? It's a quite investment even with 30% off so I'd like to know exactly what I'm buying. 😉 Thanks!
  5. I think that we don't even need Export Persona in Publisher. What can this Persona actually do that the Export window can't besides Slices? I always use Export command in Publisher - see the screenshot above - and then I use either default presets or the ones I've set up myself. The only extra command needed here is 'Create Separate PDF Files' as in InDesign.
  6. No, taky mi to nejdříve přišlo složité, ale nakonec se ukázalo, že je to hračka. Učíme se každým dnem, ne? 😃
  7. OK, now I get it. But the problem is only solved in case I need the exact same Picture Frame with its given dimensions. But if I create a new document where I need to have Picture Frame of different size then it doesn't help at all. It will have the Scale to Max Fit property but I will have to resize the frame which in the end will be even more work. The dedicated button would certainly help here.
  8. Sorry but how exactly? Where in Settings? It's not in Preferences and I cannot find any particular settings for Picture Frame.
  9. Hi, 99% of the time I use Scale to Max Fit when placing picture into the picture frame. The dedicated button next to Properties is set for Size Picture Frame to Content. It would be super useful if we could assign it to different behaviour. I for example have never used this button. Yet every time I place the picture I have to click on Properties and set Scale to Max Fit. It could save me one click/little bit of time. Thanks!
  10. I've found a way to do it! Apparently it's got nothing to do with the color space/profile. All that was needed was to blur the layer with the circle with the amount of 100 - 200px, and then rasterize this layer so there is no color banding. That's it. Yeah!
  11. Hi guys, First time I tried to use gradient for print and cannot figure out what's wrong. ;) Check the screenshots. On the display the gradient looks perfect. In the exported PDF it looks awful. I've tried circle with radial transparency 0-100% added, and also white circle with white to transparent gradient. Same result. Midpoint is at 40% and I even tried different transparency/color values for this midpoint but it's still the same. is there a simple way how to achieve this gradient for print? Thanks.
  12. Well, if I export multi-page file to JPEGs or PNGs, they are named correctly - filename_number. During export you it gives you options to name your file. So only the number would be added. I don't see this as a major problem. So if this can be exported properly, separate PDFs should be too. InDesign has this option during export, see the screenshot. Export individual files to different directories is impossible I guess.

  14. If I'm not mistaken, AD cannot open multi-page afpub files. At least I don't know why. And it would be a hassle anyway - creating something in Publisher, than save it, go to Finder, open it with Designer and only then export. Makes more sense to be built into the Publisher itself, I think.
  15. I'd love to see this option in Publisher. My way of work at the moment is this: I create one file which contains many version of the same flyer, for example. Say there is a brand group and 8 sub-brands. It is much easier to create all the flyers within the same file so I can easily copy elements from one page to another. Making 8 different files doesn't make sense to me. So, when finished I obviously need to export separate flyer for each brand. Now I have to manually select page and export as current page, or select the number of the page I need and then export. Let's hope they'll add it very soon. For 1.9 update it would be the best. 😁
  16. 😁 You're definitely right and I did read many topics. But I have to be honest - there is a chance I will never properly get this. I've created lot of files in the last year or so - both in Illustrator, InDesign, Designer and Publisher. When creating files for print I always used the same settings CMYK/FOGRA39 right from the start. Always exported properly, too. And I've never encountered any problems and I never got files back from the printer or the client due to the wrong colour settings. And - the colours on the screen and then in print were very very similar in each time. This is the first and so far the only instance when I see such massive difference in colours on the screen and on the paper. Yes, I know the colours will never look the same on display and on print but they should look very similar, that's the point, right? Would you mind sharing some colour management topic which would help me understand this more or preferably would you share your own way how to deal with this particular file? Thank you for help!
  17. Well, the prints are back and it's exactly how I expected. The colour are totally different. Check the photos. How is it possible that orange, green and that light yellow colours are so very similar on both prints and the blue/green colour isn't? BTW these three colours look almost exactly like this on display, too. They were all converted from RGB/HEX to CMYK using the same converter and yet they look completely different! Same applies for the files in Publisher - if I create a new files straight in CMYK/FOGRA39, this particular colour #00AAAD when set up in CMYK looks nothing like it's supposed to. Not even on display, let alone print. When the file is created as RGB/sRGB and then exported as PDF in CMYK, the colour is exactly right as it was meant to be in a first place. Which can be seen on the photo IMG_0264. Now I don't know if I should give clients colour codes made by converter (CMYK 100 2 0 32) or codes that Publisher shows when working in RGB (CMYK 76 13 39 0). Any ideas? Thanks.
  18. Už tuším, v čem to je, ale nechápu proč to tak je. Vzdálenosti se zobrazují správně bez skrytého objektu v případě, že je aktivní Move Tool a pohybujete objektem manuálně pomocí myši. Ale v případě, že používáte směrové šipky na klávesnici, ať už se Shiftem nebo samostatně, tak se zobrazuje vzdálenost ke skrytému objektu. Tuto metodu používám prakticky výhradně, jelikož je preciznější než pomocí myši. I když zrovna tady si stěžuji u Affinity už docela dlouho, že není vidět přesná vzdálenost, jelikož číslo je schované a objeví se až při hodně velkém zvětšení. Proč to tak je, mi vůbec nejde do hlavy. Tady bych si musel domýšlet - je to 10.5px, nebo 10.9....
  19. Je to textový blok, v tomto případě. Ale děje se to i například s barevným obdélníkem, který mám na pozadí pod textem. I když jej skryju, tak se pořád takto zobrazuje.
  20. No ale pokud je objekt skrytý (čárkovaná čára), tak by se neměl tím pádem zobrazovat ve vztahu k viditelným objektům. To je právě ta chyba a nedává to smysl.
  21. Díky - ano, to vím, ale je daleko jednodušší vidět vzdálenosti k okolním objektům přímo při pohybu objektu a použití Move Tool, bez dalších tlačítek. Navíc mi nedává smysl, proč se zobrazuje vzdálenost k objektu, který je záměrně schovaný.
  22. Hi guys, This is driving me nuts. I have a heading text between two horizontal lines - when I hide this heading's layer and create a different heading, it shows the distances to the hidden one when using Move tool and not the visible lines - which I actually need to see. I cannot find a way to disable this. In snapping preferences I have 'Only snap to visible objects' option selected. But I don't actually need to snap to anything in this case, just to measure distances.
  23. Would you recommend a proper converter for CMYK/FOGRA39, please? I mean for the times when it's not possible to get a printed proof in advance. Thanks.
  24. Thanks for the reply. I am aware of most of the facts you mentioned - but I've never seen such a big difference between RGB and CMYK on display. If you check the second logo - here the colours are much more similar than with the first one. I've been sending files to print as CMYK/FOGRA39 for months now and never seen such different colours. I have to wait for the results from the printer and I am really curious to see them, actually.
  25. Hi guys, I am sorry but I will probably never understand the color management... I believe the proper way for print is to create the file in CMYK/FOGRA39 from the beginning and then send it for print as such. What happens when the file is created as RGB/sRGB and then sent to print in CMYK/FOGRA39? See the attached files - the RGB_print was created as the latter and CMYK_print file as the former one. Which one will come out right from print? I'm just sending it over to the printer and will have results sometime next week. I know that CMYK colors look different on display but what surprises me is how much different is the first logo's color. There isn't such difference within the second logo, so what gives?
