  1. My current workaround, which seems to be working, thus I call it a workaround… Anyway, I created a sticky note asset in Publisher (which you can then copy in Designer if you want, where they don't have ability to color text frame backgrounds, but I'm getting sidetracked) and while all of our work is done in Designer (inking, panels, blah), we place sticky note comments on the tiers in the main Publisher document which collects them all together, which can then be searched (because Publisher won't search linked documents, which is a separate issue). Each sticky note is titled with TODO (from programming days) and now is searchable in the main document. Wish Publisher would see the preflight user comments in linked documents, but for now, this works. If anyone has a suggestion of a way to make these comments easily non-printable, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for not shouting at me! (Yes, mysterious movie ref.)
  2. Though I'm still right about keeping selections when dragging.
  3. Yeah, I was in a foul mood last night. Publisher kept crashing on me. Sorry.
  4. No one reads help files. Not even the pilots of the most advance ASW aircraft in the world. I use the app, I see Add To Selection, I assume Add To Selection maintains the selection as I drag over more, because I am trying to select a whole lot of fiddly little curves scattered across the design. Single-tapping them would be near impossible. Okay, it doesn't work that way. It should work that way, but it doesn't. Thanks.
  5. Designer 1.9.2 on iPad Turn on Add to Selection. Select an item using the point, the select another item. They both become part of the selection. But drag the pointer to select some items, then drag to pointer to select more items, the first set of items are deselected. Would expect that both groups dragged over would be selected, as Add to Selection is on.
  6. Actually, we were just asking if that capability already exists and we're too blind or stupid to see. Thanks, though.
  7. Don't see the problem with it switching to the persona of the file. As we pointed out, it's not a big thing, but it's something we'd prefer, so we have the right to ask. Never expected Serif to actually do anything about it, but in terms of usability, when I open a Designer file, its a better assumption that I wish to use Designer tools. If I open a linked Photo file, the better assumption is that I will use Photo tools. I don't think using the tools of the file type is the corner case, so we suggest, because we do this action hundred of times in a day.
  8. Oh, we have no problem with that. Would've been nice if it carried over the presets from the individual apps, but we got it done quickly by opening both Designer & Publisher in different halves of the monitor and replicated. Just wish that, after all that, when we open a linked Designer file, it would change to the Designer Persona automatically so we could feel a little bit better about our effort. Thanks. Thought not, but decided to ask in case there was a super-secret checkbox somewhere. Thanks anyway. Now I just wish Publisher would stop locking up when we open our files.
  9. Publisher 1.9.2, macOS Big Sur Have 61-page Publisher document made up of one, mostly two, linked Designer files per page. On opening the Publisher document, the pages in the Page Panel are blank until we manually scroll through the actual pages, where we can see the linked files. The Page Panel slowly redraws. On five occasions, though, Publisher locked up, becoming non-responsive. Quitting closes the window, but Publisher itself would not quit. Had to Force Quit. Crash logs sent to Apple. Another attempt, and both pages and Page Panel are mostly blank, sporadically showing linked files. Pages show pixelated versions as though files are missing, but check of Resource Manager shows that the status of every linked file is okay. Publisher finally locked up. Had to force quit. It appears Publisher can't handle a large number of linked files.
  10. I am stunned that Publisher doesn't give you the ability to do this, to group pages by Section so you can show only the pages you're currently working on rather than scrolling a very long list of pages. It doesn't even indicate when you've moved from one section to the next. At least, not as far as we can tell. Two years now? Disappointing. And you can't even use the Section Manager to jump to a section? Or bookmarks to give you a quicker way to navigate a long document? Is it really just scrolling at this point? Are we missing something?
  11. Yes, but that's not exactly what we're looking or hoping for. Especially when trying to search over a hundred linked Designer files.
  12. Would be keen if we could filter based on master page. That is, show only the pages that use this master page type. Thanks.
  13. Would be dandy if the Find & Replace in Publisher could also search linked Designer & Photo files (if it's actual text, that is).
  14. Publisher 1.9.2 macOS. I tried searching this, but the words are just too common, so sorry of this has been asked before. Is there a way to set Publisher so that when we double-click to edit a linked Designer file, which then opens in a new tab in Publisher, to default to the persona of the file type? That is, we go to edit the linked Designer file and when the tab opens, the Designer Persona has the panels and tools set up the way we like them. I know it's only a click away, (Heck, we've gone further to add a keyboard shortcut to switch Personas), but if there's a setting we're not aware of, we'd like to be aware of it now. I don't know how many times we've collectively said WTF when we go to edit a Designer file and the panels are out of whack because it's still set to the Publisher person. We're new to Publisher and are trying to lessen any friction. Anyway, thanks.
  15. Thanks for the advice. I did as you say, creating a yellow sticky comment note, and then created an asset out of it so I can now just drag & drop without having to leave Designer.
  16. I'd be tickled if they would just fix the things not working correctly, fix the usability issues. Could live without new features because while you might use of some really cool feature every once in a while, you use things like keyboard shortcuts hundreds of times a day. That gets tiresome when they don't work. (Yes, I mean fix the Deselect & Delete shortcuts. Please?)
  17. I put in as a bug report, as there's no reason it shouldn't be working, as some items do. Think it was just overlooked.
  18. Publisher 1.9.2 Publisher document with multiple linked Designer documents placed throughout. If individual Designer documents contain preflight errors and warnings, such as Overflowing Text Frame or a User Comment, these are not picked up in the preflight check of the main Publisher document. It will show green, no problems. Only way to find errors is to open each linked document directly from the Publisher document and do preflight check on the individual file. Publisher should flag all issues of all linked documents.
  19. I have that checked, but no change. Okay, that seems to just check that links are valid. Doesn't check if there's preflight issues within the linked document. Notice Overflowing Text and User Comments both don't have the Look inside placed documents checkbox.
  20. Don't understand the question. Do you mean to get around the embedded preflight error? I'm not even sure if it would stop the main document from printing. If you mean an option to show preflight flags of linked documents, not that I've found. I'm just wondering why the main Publisher document doesn't flag the errors and user comments of all the embedded. Seems kind of useless the way it's implemented now if it just lets all those problems through. It would mean having to open each and every linked document to check their preflight status.
  21. Okay, just ran into a hitch with preflight comments. Have a Publisher document made up of hundreds of linked Designer documents, the Designer documents made up of four panels each. Want to add a comment to one of the panels in one of the linked documents to fix something. Can't select the individual panel in Publisher, only the entire linked document, so preflight comments can't point to the exact panel or object that needs work. Can open the linked document to edit and select the specific panel or text box or image and attach a preflight comment, but the comment with show up in the Preflight Panel only for that opened-for-editing document. If the tab is closed, editing done, though it has an attached preflight comment, it won't show up in the main document's preflight list. On top of that, the individual linked Designer document has showstopper preflight errors, which show red & would stop printing, but in the main Publisher document to which it's linked, it shows no indication of there being a problem in the Preflight Panel. That's a bummer.
  22. Except you have to do them one at a time by that method. We have a lot of brushes and assets broken down by project, and very little patience. Just wish the presets would work the same way.
  23. Okay, for anyone trying to do this as well, we found that you can import your brushes and assets from Designer-Actual to Publisher-Designer by simply copying the appropriate files from the library of Designer to the library of Publisher. \o/ Affinity/Serif, we still love you!
  24. Gads, this is going to be painful. Thanks. Even more painful. I see the brushes don't come over either! Nor the assets. Agh! I think I answered my own question about actual vs required.
