  1. When we say line, we mean lines from the Pencil tool. We use only the Vector Brush tool, the Pencil tool, and sometimes the node. Rarely if ever use the Pen tool. Right now, to keep from having to be so precise, slowing use down, we just don't close the loop (because it will alter slightly the starting part of the line), fill the thing, and then run the Add. Remove the fill, then drop in the pixel image. This works, only in more steps than with V1. When you say that V1 doesn't show you the Add points like V2 does, that is true, but we became used to how to draw in V1. The Close Path seems to only work sometimes for us in V2, so we now just do the fill and drop the image in. We'll next try seeing if we actually have to de-Fill the object since we're using the embedded image. Another case of fighting muscle memory. Thanks.
  2. For those still trying to justify the V2 way of Geometry Add, please explain to me when, at any time, is it right to use the Add tool and it wipes out all of your shapes. It makes no sense. It's not right. Wish Serif could admit to, "Yeah, we broke that. Sorry."
  3. We trace an inked object, such as in the case of the character's skin, using the line tool. You can't always draw it all in one stroke, so you pause, rotate/move, then continue. Sometimes, you have to continue from the start, heading back towards the end, because your hand covers over the area you are tracing. This is over the section not traced yet. You do the same with other parts that are skin, such as an arm, leg, foot. You then add them all together as one multi-part object, using Geometry-Add. One layer will all parts, which have gaps between them. You then drop a pixel-based image onto this layer as a child, filling in all the outlines with the same thing. That's all. Used to be easy. Now it's not. We're done.
  4. Okay, think we got this working in V2, though it seems much more fiddly and slow compared to doing the same in V1. It is definitely not a better way. We need to continue working with this method to see if it can become part of our routine. Right now, we keep reverting to old ways and have to go back and correct for the changes. Not posting a video right now because we have much more important tasks to accomplish. For now, we draw using the line tool as we normally did (though you have to do more momentary hovers which is a hard habit to get into), then fill the outline when done, do this for each section, Geometry Add them together, then remove the fill and the line (we fill with our own object as a child, basically masking. Thanks for the help.
  5. in Version 2, it works with Far or Near, but if you elect to start from the other end (the beginning) it doesn't work. That's something that always did in V 1 as we rotated the image while working. The node does not turn red, either. I know this all works in V1, but that will mean manually moving all files back to V1, which is a hassle.
  6. Have to agree with the lepr. Unless I've been using v1 wrong for many years.
  7. No, I mean continuing the same line from the opposite end (the starting point) which worked fine in AD v1. They would meet up using Sculpt mode and it didn't matter if it closed, it was still considered one line.
  8. Okay, tried drawing with autoclose set to Near & Far, and if you draw with two lines, the first line and the second starting at the beginning of the first line, the autoclose does not work. I do this often when I rotate an image I'm working on.
  9. It appears R C-R is correct, the shapes (drawn using light tool) need to be filled or closed for this to work. Not what I want because auto-filling hides the work I'm tracing, making it near useless. Auto-close isn't so bad, but it does slow me down. Plus, I just read my response to R C-R and I apparently had a problem because I draw using Sculpt mode. I'll need to test that now.
  10. I'm using AD 2.6.0 and it still does not appear to be fixed. Belief does not count. Really starting to wish I hadn't upgraded.
  11. Personally, to copy over one or two colors between documents, I double-click the color and copy the hex code.
  12. This thread is old, but in case anyone still using AD v1 wants to duplicate a lost brush, I found that is it paint with a different brush, and then copy a line previously drawn and paste its style on the new line (Edit | Paste Style), it changes to the lost brush. Saved my behind, discovering this.
  13. What did you expect that person to do, writing about a long-standing problem before V2 was even released? Build a time machine? As for fixes in version 2, they also broke some fundamental functionality (at least on the Mac desktop), such as Add Geometry, which just deletes the layers now without combining the objects.
  14. Video shows AD v1 vs v2, where we created two curves with Pencil tool and tried to Add them. Version 1 makes single curve out of both while version 2 just deletes the curves. Version 2 works as expected if Auto-Close is turned on (not available in version 1), but if you use Sculpt, the curve is auto-closed on first pause of drawing line and when you continue from last point, the curve becomes open again, even though Auto-Close is still ticked on. Curve will not close from that point on and will be deleted when Add is applied. Geometry Add Broken in ADv2.mov.fa47d46fca0cb1cf6e2c2c6ef4559237.mov
  15. Oh, I see that Auto-Close was not something that was in v1, but if I set it, it does as you say, which is work as expected. Now I hope the Auto-Close is a setting that remembers how you last set it, unlike Sculpt mode, which never remembers, which is a pain because we always use it in Sculpt mode. But then what does Auto-Close with Sculpt mode mean? Well, it appears to mean the line will close itself when you first stop, but then you can start drawing again like usual from your last point, but that then makes the line open again while Auto-Close is still on, which brings back the problem of the line disappearing you try to Geometry Add it. Even if you toggle Auto-Close on & off, it still remains open and disappears when you add it. I was so hopeful for a few seconds. Back to version 1!
  16. With version 1 of Designer for Mac, I would draw a number of outlines using the pen tool, and at the end, do a Geometry Add to make it all one object to act as a clipping mask. With version two, doing the same thing, one of the curves will just disappear, or both will if they're both new curves. I tried separating a compound curve and then add them all together again, but then the overlap of the new curve knocks out the other curves. This seems really completely broken to me. Currently, I'm just not joining them and am using each curve as its own mask. Thanks for any help or explanation. Added video. Clearly, it's broken. Geometry Add Broekn in AD v2.mov
  17. I found, on the Mac, that the old workaround of duplicating the Affinity app, deleting the original, and then opening the first time to verify, speeds up opening the app by quite a bit. (And maybe the app overall, but that might be psychosomatic.) Things were taking forever, but now it's fine. (It had to do something with permissions. Sorry if this doesn't help on Windows.)
  18. Yeah, it comes before the T&C, but that part was easy to mimic with a cat, a child's record player, some cotton balls, and the recording of morse code in meows. Thanks for this, it does look like what we're looking for, but as you say, this font should be pretty easy to make by hand; especially since all we need are caps. But if there's a faster, easier, less expensive way, we tend to go lazy. Thanks again for your help.
  19. Okay, after having a night to sleep on it, we realized that even though they were trying to portray a "shadow effect" in the titles & credits, it is actually what we would call 3D text. Worked on different ideas using Designer & Photo, but none came out looking right, so we broke down and went to Blender…and learned that Blender has the worst text editing tools. Anyway, created the text, added some thickness, converted it all into mesh, selected all the vertices other than those along the front, scaled them up from the origin point so they spread out to either side, then moved them up the z-axis until they were even, changed those extruded faces to pure black while keeping the front faces an off-white, put it in front of a green screen using an orthographic camera with shadow casting turned off, rendered, and… What a pain. Now if we could only find a font close to obviously hand-done one. PP, what app are you using in your top image? Anyway, thanks everyone for he help. And the image is the opening credits for 1933's King Kong.
  20. Why we moved on to using pen displays. So much heartache fluttered away. Would never pay for an update to the iPad version. And is the reason why we never purchased the iPad version of Photo. We believe Serif/Affinity are circling the drain and it won't be long now. Which is sad.
  21. Yeah, okay, but none of those are close to what we're trying to achieve if you look at our actual image, which is not 3D but hand cut back around 1932. It is as though the light is at bottom center & it radiates out from there, which none of your examples show. We've tried perspective warps, convert-to-curves and drag lines, and they all sucked, but we're hoping there's a graphic design genius who knows this obscure are. We're close to falling back onto Blender, but we like Affinity products better. So while we appreciate the help, maybe you can help us on how to search for "Text Shadow" and find what we're looking for. Not that you should assume that we didn't already try that. Does anyone even recognize the movie this image came from?
  22. An effect like in this image, where the shadow offsets from the center across the lines of text, are attached the entire way back to the font, and sharp... We've tried different things, but nothing comes out right. Or easy. We prefer to use Designer, but have Photo & Publisher as well. Thanks for any help.
  23. Thanks for post this. Worked out perfect for what I need. You can adjust the noise with the bottom slider of the color palette in each of these settings (not exactly, but close enough). Is it not the same? Anyway, thanks again.
  24. It's particularly gallingly tone-deaf after getting the email yesterday asking to help them improve customer service, where they state that they've relied of valuable feedback in these forums.
