  1. By the way, I just made a quick search and fell upon this 1Password forum post that mentions some problem with reinstalling the app that was bought from the Mac App Store. I think you can adapt it to your reinstall problem:

Licence Key info Incorrect & App Store Update Issue

They do mention in there to report the problem to Apple using this link.

Good luck, I hope this fixes it for you guys!

  2. Like you say, it used to be that the OS would swap, using empty disk space as virtual RAM.

I think, but am not sure, that this is still the case with the latest versions of the operating system. See how much space is taken on your disk and delete anything that is not necessary.

Also, make sure that before buying the RAM you CAN actually install it yourself. Apple has the big rime annoying habit of making more and more of its computers factory sealed and if there is to be an upgrade in RAM, it has to be installed before shipping the product.

Maxing out the RAM on your Mac will rejuvenate it for sure but just in case you don't get the millage that you were hoping for out of this upgrading RAM thing, why not create a new user account where only barebones apps are running ( = essential apps i.e. no internet browser running in the background, no email, no music, etc.)? That way you'll have more RAM available for any app that bring your Mac to its knees. This might also help the hardware to perform better.

  3. Also, if you do decide on an iMac (it really does make a lot of sense!), AND if you can afford it, get a built-to-order model with Flash storage (you gain a lot of speed that way). I always go for the top CPU and graphics card so it feels snappy for years to come.

Don't order extra RAM from the Apple store, install it yourself, you'll save a bundle that way. I always buy my RAM from OWC and highly recommend it.

  4. Hi all!

I know you guys are very very busy prepping for the next full version of Affinity software to be available to customers in the Mac App Store, so this is by no means a biggy issue.

I was just wondering if it could be possible in the future to have an automatic or manual upload button within AP (maybe AD as well?) to the online photo hosting service SmugMug?

In case you are curious, here are a few links:

    SmugMug online hosting service

    SmugMug API (home)

Third-party uploaders, downloaders, migration tools and utilities

Thank you for your time and keep up the extraordinary work! You make an awesome team!

  5. I think AP and AD are the ultimate bargain, even at full price. They are not necessarily full-featured and mature like PS and Illustrator yet, but they are getting there fast. Consider the huge price difference between these four apps, you'll know what I mean.

Pixelmator for me is nice and cute but it's more of an eye-candy interface and app, I find and it never totally does what I want it to. I'd consider Acorn to be more of a serious app for what I need when I work on my photos but AP is already beyond that at version 1.3.5. I haven't tried the customer betas yet, I'm waiting for the official update, but AP and AD betas sound very cool indeed.

  6. It seems to me that there is a separate, and possibly larger issue here. The fact that this is apparently a small company, with a dedicated but limited staff, working very hard to get two high quality products to market. They have had to push the Affinity Publisher beta release. It seems very counter productive to do a survey on the present demand for a product you may not even be able to start planning for maybe 2 years. Not to mention committing now, to a Linux version, and then having to listen to people complain about how long it is taking to release it. Nothing kills a company faster than taking on more they they can handle. It's easy from the outside to say "What about this feature? Why haven't you added the ability to do such and such? It's been a year a still nothing! This shouldn't be that hard!". We don't know the difficulties the developers face. The issues they are trying to resolve and those unforeseen they will have to handle. Nothing is impossible for those who don't have to do it. Not long ago neither of these apps existed and they are being expected to live up to programs that have been enhanced and redefined for 20 years. And now they should also take on Windows and Linux versions because clearly they don't have a well thought out business plan and are just making decisions on the fly. Come on. Cut them some slack.

All valid points! As far as I understand it, this forum is for members to get acquainted with the software, learn how to use it, get tips and tricks, find help from more experienced users and/or moderators, get links to tutorials, read news when a new version is out and where to download it. Also, report bugs we find to help make the apps even better than they already are or ask for missing features that would make our lives easier using the apps.

It is NOT for whining about the software not being released for other OSes.

Sure, I’ve complained to companies about their software not having a Mac version in the day but I’ve always done it discreetly, via email or contact forms, hoping that companies would see it would be a good thing. If it didn’t happen, I learned to live without it.

Public whining only bores, antagonizes or annoys some members that are here for the real and valid reasons of joining this community.

Now what I'm wondering is, should Affinity hire someone just to reply here "we will think about releasing a version for your OS when we are done with the Mac version" so the developers can have peace and quiet? Maybe they could program in the forum software an automatic reply to these types of threads...

And it seems to me that it's not hard to do a search in these forums and find that:

1- these types of questions have been asked before

2- the official replies were already given.

To those people who come here just to demand this or that version, take some of your time and look for a similar software that is already available for your platforms (yes, there are apps out there for you!) and use that instead. And leave the devs alone so they can do their real job! Please! Thank you!

  7. Hello...

SO impressed with the whole Affinity line.  I'm trying really hard to get rid of my monthly payment of $30 to Adobe Design.

Does anyone know of a good replacement for Adobe Acrobat?  (I know this is pushin' it.. but what about Bridge?  :-)

    thanks!!!

ALSO... is there a way to get an email notification when a reply is posted?  Thanks!!!

Welcome to the forum, ewarda!   :)

I'll let others reply for the replacements you asked for but one way of following replies in a thread is easy peasy:
