  1. Hello, I just brought a Luminex camera, great camera but tedious. A nasty surprise is that Lightroom (do not intend to pay a subscription for a version that will) will not open those RAW files. Affinity opens them but very-very slowly. I am following a thread about Affinity not having the capability to import a batch of raw files of any kind and am not seeing a happy ending to that problem. Can you advise me if there is a way to do that now, or if not can you a workaround to get those file in either Lightroom or Affinity in a reasonable time frame? PS, now I see the way around this is to acquire a DNC converter; I just checked and Adobe does not have one for Windows 7, any recommendations malware free location to acquire one of these? Thank You and Regards, thagood
  2. Hello, Let me start my question by stating that I have used the flood select before without these difficulties; now something is different and I hope you can help me sort it out. But first let me state how it has worked for me before: I simply took the flood select tool (working on background pixel level) , dragged it across my sky, left to right, and it did a beautiful job of differentiating the separation between the clouds and the blue sky. Now initially and for a very brief interval, it selects and separates clouds from blue sky (exactly as described above), but it holds very briefly. After or as the initial selection disappears, other areas are selected without any input from me, crossing the horizon line and into the foreground selecting trees or whatever and even sometimes running to the perimeter of the photograph and selecting the full frame, And now I am reading online post about the process and hearing about rasercize the image and working from another layer; maybe I'm not the sharpest tack in the box but I do not recall doing that before when this process was working. At any rate, I am here to learn and not to complain that what I am doing should be working, so please tell me as best you can what is wrong and how to redirect it? PS: After writing the above, I have rastercized the background pixel layer and set the source to 'All Layers', and to my surprise, because it seems completely counter-intuitive, I am able to select the sky with reasonable accuracy; however when I attempt to select more clouds with a different tonal level the computer crashes or reverts to selecting unwanted areas across the horizon. I am running a 64 bit very clean computer that very seldom stalls, just thought I'd mention it because I just read that Affinity has had issues with flood select from their end. Thank You and Regards -- -- Tom Hagood
  3. Gary, I booted her up this morning and worked in Affinity, which now seems to be functioning well enough. Part of the problem may have been user error; thanks for listening, and I will repost if the problem does not full resolve. Regards-- -- Tom Hagood
  4. Hello, I just turned on Affinity Photo and was prompted to download the latest version 1.8.5 703; I loaded a photograph from my Desktop and attempted to edit it. The sliders and controls appear and seem to work, but non of the edits appear on screen (the photograph as quantified on screen remains entirely static and unchanged). I have had no similar issues with the previous version. My question is how do I fix this within this version and or how to I revert to the previous version? Thank You and Regards -- -- Tom Hagood
  5. Hello, I am puzzled by the lens filter adjustment; when you open the dialogue box, it is set to orange and there is no way that I have discovered to change that set color. And don't get me wrong, I like that filter color and use it a lot; actually in a previous editor I had set the printer profile to a similar color because it adds a nice patina to most of my prints. So what I am wondering and desiring clarification about is: Did Affinity discover the usefulness of this color as a universal solvent (as I have) and design it to be an unalterable color, or am I just too dense to figure out how to change it? Thank You and Regards
  6. Hello Dan, In this case I need to move in the converse direction, having created a panorama in Affinity I wish to apply HSL adjustments with Lightroom's sliders. I suppose that I will have to convert from a proprietary Affinity format and into a generic format such as TIF in order to accomplish that? How would I go about copying and converting the format; I have not yet noticed this capability in Affinity? Thanks and Regards -- -- Tom Hagood
  7. Hello, My problem is trying to edit proprietary Affinity Photo files in Lightroom; LR simply does not see those files when I attempt to import. I suppose this is a file association issue, but one of the first things I did after installing Aff software was to try and establish and external editor link ( several attempts and no success). I need to find a path and preferably and easy one; the most obvious one of converting file formats back and forth does not sound easy, and trying to establish a link vis a vis the external editor path has not worked. I could use a little tutoring if you please. Oh and for what it's worth I am running Windows 7. I know what your thinking but I don't take it online and it works fine; if that stops working for me, I'll either put a gun in my mouth or buy a Mack, but Windows 10 I will never do! Thank You and Regards
  8. Hello, Most of my images are stored in Lightroom; early on I tried to establish a link between Affinity and LR, but it didn't work out, and in truth I had no idea what to expect from it. Presently I am exporting images from Lightroom to my desktop, editing in Affinity and then storing them on my desktop. I'm not sure why but my intuition makes me fearful of exporting edited Affinity images back into Lightroom until I understand more about how that works. My question: what kind of link can I establish between the two editors and what might I expect form it? And thank you all for taking the time to answer these questions; it is very helpful! Regards -- -- thagood
  9. Yes I had thought that was fundamentally so; where I got thrown for a loop is that Affinity does have a Library, but I now understand that term does not mean what it means in Lightroom.
  10. That is interesting and helpful, thank you to MEB and RC-R. Good to know that I can save the history with the pic file. I'm beginning to suspect that Affinity Photo does not have a capability within itself to save, sort, file, identify and recall photographs. When I click file- save as or file-open I am referred to my computers facilities like documents or pictures. But this is not clear and I am wondering, where does the file go when I just click save or when I close a file and Affinity as if I want to save? Does it go to my computer or is there a compartment within Affinity; as far as I can discern Affinity only has some awareness of recent: I can see that there is an option to Add To Library, but where is that library. I have been searching for that function but see no path to it? Regards thagood
  11. MEB, OK, I got it sorta, but I am working in the Photo and Develop Personas and only have the vaguest idea of what a 'Canvas' actually is; i'll get to it later, but for the present there is plenty in front of me to occupy my mind. Here are a couple of things that would help at the levels I'm actually working-- -- Why in the world can I not get a before and after / split view in the Photo Persona or is there a way to do that, that I am just not aware of? And how do I go about saving my picture files while retaining 'history' from my Affinity editing. I don't know where or how, so for the present I'm just saving on the computer and when the come back in to affinity they do not retain the history. Lightroom which is my other editor has extensive apparatus inboard for saving and cataloging files; I haven't picked up on anything in Affinity that is so dedicated, but there must be a way to save the picture files while retaining history, If you could just point me in the right direction, I'll take it from there! Again thanks for your help and regards -- -- thagood
  12. v_Kyr Yes I am aware that a layer must be selected, but selected layers, which are locked (as indicated by the padlock icon) in the layer box do not in fact lock, because I move them with the move tool. And this is interesting: I just opened the graphics for Chapter 3 (Mam_tor.tiff.) which is described as having a locked background pixel layer and in fact has the padlock icon within and I moved it as well. I think the locking feature will be an important feature in the heat of battle as my study continues, and I would really like to find a way to make it work. It seems to me this must be a software glitch; is there a patch or perhaps a more current version of Affinity Photo? I am running version 1.8.3.641; is there a newer version? Thank You and Regards -- -- Tom Hagood
  13. Hello, a little help please! This is about layers and I am aware it is way off the topic of this thread, and it is not the first Affinity thread I have posted to on the subject. I've done it a couple of times to threads that I suppose were old and dead with no response. Since I know this thread is active, I thought to take my shot and see if you can help from here? My problem is layers which I cannot get to lock; I am aware there are a couple of ways to do it, and they will both light up the padlock icon on the selected layer, but it fails to lock them (as drag-able as they ever were). And this too, when I drag a layer into another layer as the workbook illustrates, usually I cannot take the said dragged layer back out. Basically they are conjoined for life, and the only way I have found to change that is to revert the history back to the time before! Thanks and Regards -- -- thagood
  14. Hello, I am working the workbook and am into layers; there are a few problems-- -- 1. Layers are sometimes disappearing when I drag them with the move tool. 2. Layers will not unlock after being joined. 3. Layers will not lock, never and no matter what, To my knowledge there are two ways to do it: 1 select the layer and click on the padlock or 2, highlight the layer, go to the layers menu and select lock. Neither works, basically nothing is reliable in terms of moving and locking layers. Yes, I do see the padlock icon within the layer, but it moves and I cannot make it stick, layers disappear as if deleted when attempting to move and I cannot break up co-joined layers. Hope you can help, thanks!
