  1. Hi @Iztok, Thank you for sharing your situation with the community. (I’m not sure whether your report relates to the beta version of the Affinity Suite. It’s up to you to tell us.) From your description and the screenshot provided, it seems that the order in which the elements appear in the layers panel corresponds to the order in which the letters were created and converted into curves. This is perfectly normal: objects created last are automatically positioned at the top of the layers panel. Regarding your concern about the order resulting from the conversion to curves, it seems that this is simply the result of the order in which the objects were created before they were converted. If you don’t think this is the case, could you provide us with more details of the steps you follow for this conversion, and a test file or/and video? This will help us to better understand the problem and confirm whether there is a malfunction or suggest more appropriate solutions. I would also encourage you to use vector formats for your typographic designs if your project allows. This will avoid any risk of pixelation when enlarging graphic elements, while preserving the optimum quality of your text and drawings.of clarity, or the allocation of different colours to layers to distinguish them more clearly. Finally, if you’re having trouble organizing your layers, don’t hesitate to use features such as layer groups, renaming for greater clarity, or assigning different colours to layers to distinguish them more clearly.
  2. Everyone fully understands your concerns about the influence of the United States, given the proximity and close interaction with your country. However, it is interesting to note a renaissance of ancestral languages around the world. Mandarin now tops the list of mother tongues, followed by Spanish, then English, which is now in decline with the loss of influence of the British Empire. Hindi and Bengali are also among the most widely spoken languages. 😁This raises an interesting question: how will we name technologies and globally recognised brands such as Fenêtre 11 or Pomme Pinceau 2 in the future in this enriching linguistic mosaic?
  3. Interesting. Thank you, MikeTo. That said, the word " Majuscule " is not only "not ideal". It is wrong and leads to major misunderstandings. French characters: A, B, C - these are uppercase, capital characters a, b, c - these are lowercase or minuscule characters French words: APPLE - this word is uppercase, all capitals/all caps, with one majuscule apple - this word is lowercase or minuscule Apple - this word is majuscule French sentences: Apples are good - this is a sentence case. It begins by a majuscule. Apples are Good - this is title case. This concept does not exist in French. Here we have a sentence that must begin with a capital letter, and good must be in lower case, like the first sentence. Apples Are Good - this is start case, even articles, prepositions, and conjunctions are capitalized. This concept does not exist in French. Here we have a sentence that must begin with a capital letter, and good must be in lower case, like the first sentence. French verse in classical prosody Gloire à la terre ! Gloire à l’aube où Dieu parait ! Au fourmillement d’yeux ouverts dans la forêt, Aux fleurs, aux nids que le jour dore ! Gloire au blanchissement nocturne des sommets ! Gloire au ciel bleu qui peut, sans s’épuiser jamais, Faire des dépenses d’aurore ! (Glory to the earth! Glory to the dawn when God appears! To the swarming eyes open in the forest, To the flowers and nests gilded by day! Glory to the nightly whitening of the summits! Glory to the blue sky that can, without ever running out, Spend like the dawn!) The Legend of the Centuries, The Earth, Victor Hugo Other French majuscule letters Book or newspaper titles, political texts, nicknames, company names, public organisations, international organisations, decorations, vehicle names and the names of stars all obey specific capitalisation rules.
  4. According to the definition in French dictionaries, a ‘majuscule’ is in practice a capital letter, with an additional nuance: it is located at the beginning of a proper noun (Affinity), and certain common nouns ‘l’État’ (The State), ‘le ministère de la Culture’ (The Ministry of Culture), etc., or the first word at the beginning of a sentence, or the first word at the beginning of a verse in classical prosody. The name of ‘la Grande Ourse’ (the Great Bear) is written with two ‘majuscules’ like in English, the name of ‘la Voie lactée’ (The Milky Way) is written with only 1 ‘majuscule’.
  5. Hello everyone, I'm looking for a way to align two objects in an unusual situation: the left edge of the second object needs to be aligned with the right edge of the first. How do I do this with Align button? Thank you in advance for your explanations.
  6. Yes, and so Affinity is written in majuscule with the majuscule letter ‘A’, whereas AFFINITY is written in capitals with the first letter, ‘A’, also a majuscule letter, because the design of ‘A’ is larger than the ordinary letters or characters [that is lower case] and of a different design [instead of ‘a’], and it is placed at the initial of the word.
  7. What are we talking about? A typographic function that works on the Unicode categories Letter upper case (Lu), Letter lower case (Ll), and Letter title case (Lt). The Affinity suite is a professional software, which means that it must use a precise typographic vocabulary and not just any old thing. The distinction between "capitale" and "majuscule" is specific to French and has no direct correspondence in English, where "uppercase" can refer to both concepts. This linguistic nuance can actually lead to confusion or translation errors when working with bilingual texts or in multilingual contexts. A capital letter is a larger letter used in a variety of contexts, whereas a "majuscule" letter refers specifically to a capital letter used at the beginning of a word, sentence, verse or for proper nouns, in accordance with spelling rules. Two translations should be changed to comply with French typographic reality. Capitalization ([not Majuscules] Casse) : A typographic function that works on the Unicode categories Letter. Dynamic transformations None (Aucun) : No case style is applied to the text. Small Caps (Petites capitales) : Use a small capitals style without changing their original case. All Caps (Tout en capitales) : Use a capitals style without changing their original case. Persistent transformations Lower Case (Minuscules) : Transforms all letters into lower case. Upper Case ([not Majuscule] Capitales) : Transforms all letters into capitals. Toggle Case (Inverser la casse) : Inverts the case of each letter in the text. Title Case (Majuscule en début de mot) : This is an English concept. Only the first letters of the main words are capitalised, the rest are lowercase. Sentence Case (Majuscule en début de phrase) : Only the first letter of the first sentence is capitalised, the rest of the text is lowercase except for words with an initial capital letter (upper case).
  8. 😉The dictionary of the famous Canadian company Druide gives more or less the same definition of the French term ‘majuscule’ as the Académie française.
  9. v. 2.4.2.2356 Hello everyone, A ‘majuscule’ is in French a letter of larger proportions and often of a different shape to the minuscule, placed at the initial of a proper noun or at the beginning of a sentence or verse. It is a capital or title case. https://www.dictionnaire-academie.fr/article/A9M0273 A better French translation of ‘Capitalisation’ is ‘Casse’.
  10. Hello, @Patrick Connor and @Pauls, I can’t reproduce the malfunction. For memory, a 320-page book created by Affinity Publisher 2.3 and then updated as and when production updates were made. 2 Affinity Designer resources created in version 1, and the others since summer 2023. I’ve updated all the linked Affinity Designer resources (except 1), and this has solved the problem. I’ve updated the book to 2.4.1. Would you like the book file and any other files updated to 2.4.1 for Affinity suite resources?
  11. Hello, @nwhit, See if the solution I've found, taking all the linked Affinity resources created in an older version one by one, wouldn't solve the problem.
  12. Hello, @Patrick Connor, I've updated the files concerned. I'll see if I can find an old version 1 AFDESIGN file that hasn't yet been updated to reproduce the malfunction. Have a happy Easter.
  13. No. This is an Affinity Publisher file created in version 2.3 and last saved in 2.4.0 the day before the arrival of 2.4.1.
  14. Affinity Publisher v2.4.1.2344 (public) and v2.4.2.2356 (beta). The malfunction is critical and more or less quickly prevents you from moving to another page, and immediately from selecting or modifying objects on the current pages. Report We noticed this on an AFPUB document of 320 pages created under 2.3 and since saved under version 2.4.0 We have already reported this problem. It stems from an incompatibility with AFDESIGN linked files created in earlier versions (one in version 1, and the other four in versions 2.3 or 2.4). We then used the Resource Manager of Affinity Publisher to find the paths to the linked files and update them in the new version of Affinity Designer. Affinity Publisher froze each time an AFDESIGN file was updated. Saving the AFFDESIGN file of a lower version directly with "Save" proved impossible and we had to use "Save as". For the version 1 file, we even had to add and then remove an object so that we could save directly using 'Save', otherwise it would remain in version 1. The time required to correct five AFDESIGN files, due to repeated blockages in Affinity Publisher, was around 1 hour. Importance of the malfunction This is a major incompatibility that requires urgent attention to maintain a smooth workflow with files from earlier versions.
  15. No. Now, in practice, Quark only envisage subscription, offering an overpriced perpetual licence that will quickly become obsolete (after initially deleting it).
  16. 😱This is very sad news. @Ash, you were always saying that you weren’t for sale, but this takeover by Canva is a dark moment. Didn’t you realize that users trusted you, and that they had left Adobe precisely on the promise of a lifetime purchase of an improved Adobe where we would only have to pay for upgrades? The world of Canva has nothing in common with the Affinity suite, either in their applications or in their business model. Affinity will therefore suffer the same fate as most of the companies acquired by Canva, not to mention what happened to QuarkXPress when it decided to change its business model from lifetime purchase to rental. PS Recalling a fired CEO is an exception. The return of Sam Altman thanks to the support of partners and employees is just the exception that proves the rule. Sadly.
  17. Hello, @maxen, I have to admit that I don't understand what you've done. Could you show a video showing the different stages?
  18. @fde101, I've seen successful companies bought out, the CEO kept on, and 2 years later the CEO was fired and the company changed its business strategy. The mere fact that the CEO is waffling on these points means that a change of policy is on the cards. In Canva's acquisition strategy, several companies that initially offered products sold on a one-off purchase model have seen their business model evolve towards a subscription model, in line with Canva's overall strategy of operating largely on a subscription model.
  19. 😱It is clear that the Affinity suite will eventually migrate to a subscription model, as this is Canvas' business model. 😱In other words, there's nothing planned after version 2.
  20. Hello, @stevenmiller, and welcome to the forum. Here are a few things you can do to solve this problem: Check that your operating system is up to date: Make sure that your operating system is up to date. Check the updates available from Windows Update and install them if necessary. This is important because the latest system and associated software updates may contain fixes that are compatible with the new version of Affinity Photo. Potentially corrupted installation file: Your downloaded EXE file may have been corrupted. I advise you to delete the currently downloaded file and download it again from the official website. Version incompatibility: An incompatibility between the version of the downloaded EXE file and the one previously installed on your computer may also be the cause. If the automatic installation fails, try updating manually with the MSIX version of the software. Conflict with your system configuration: Items such as antivirus software or hardware limitations may interfere with the installation. To avoid possible conflicts, restart your computer, then temporarily deactivate your antivirus and firewall software before attempting installation again. Potential addition : Storage space: Check that you have enough storage space on your hard drive for the update. Insufficient space could prevent the installation process from completing correctly. 🙂Share your failures and successes. It could be useful to our entire community.
  21. Hello @Andreas S, I replaced all the images with others (in fact always the same one), then I integrated them and then I drastically modified the dimensions of the mock-ups. I didn't reproduce any crashes. However, a resource image couldn't be integrated, one of the pages (4-5) doesn't seem to have a layout, and the fonts are missing exept vivaldi italic (I only use the 1000 fonts supplied with Windows unless requested by the customer). Check that the problem isn't caused by importing resource files from an older version of Affinity or by one or more fonts. Crash test Sample.afpub
  22. This is also what I would have suggested, as raster images are often pixelated, which is not suitable for a Quick Response Code with a long URL.
  23. Hello, @pfi, The problem of crashes is often the most difficult for software manufacturers to correct, because the user is generally unaware of what has caused them and how to reproduce them. I invite you to report the problem again and again, each time providing as much information as possible. This type of investigation requires precise knowledge of the hardware, the software environment, the tasks carried out at the same time, the precise circumstances of the manipulations, and as many screen copies and video recordings as possible. Providing the file that caused the crash can also help.
