I've noted that too. There seems to be a bug with the brushes - only the brush width is working on that dialog. But i do know you can use a Wacom since there's other members using it successfully. At least it was working during the beta.

    Hi Carlos,
Select your image (jpg), go to menu Layer ▹ Rasterize to Mask. You can then attach the mask to whatever object you want.

Have you tried FILTERS > COLOURS > ERASE WHITE PAPER Or SELECT > SELECT SAMPLED COLOUR  in Photo?

Again it will depend on the image and how complex it is and if the BG is pure white, I have tried both of these options on various logos and have achieved the desired effect for me.

    Hi adamfarmer
The masking feature was improved and is now possible to achieve what you were trying to create.
You can get the latest beta (1.0.19815) here in case you want to try it. The updated MAS version will be available later.

    Hello,

I'm fairly new to graphics work so please forgive me if this seems simple.

I'm trying to replicate the layer mask effect I can achieve in gimp. I'm currently using the last beta version of Affinity Designer and I'm keen to purchase it.

I've attached an image to explain, across the top is a logo, some wood panels and a b&w mask version of the wood. I would like to mask out the logo where there is black on the mask - to achive an old/worn look. Along the bottom is the logo with transparent areas, the finished effect, and the layer manager in gimp.

Is this possible in Affinity Designer, and if so, how can it be achieved? I've spent WAY too much time trying!

    Many thanks,
    Adam

Have you checked the forum? There's tones of feedback here.
I agree that Photoshop will be the hardest target. There's probably a reason why they are tackling Affinity Photo first.

It's a shame that Photo is the next application due rather than Publisher. From what I have positively experienced with Designer, I look forward to the full Affinity suite. But, in my opinion, there is a much bigger need in the Mac market for an application to take on InDesign, than a photo application. Anyway, it's refreshing to have a software company with visibility of developments and roadmaps.

Discovered Affinity today, didn't blink, bought it and glad i did. I've been playing for a few hours and there's something I can't get my head around. How do you fit a line of text to a curve or path.
