  1. @thomaso Thanks for coming back to this. I have been wondering about the progress of this. Your experience is similar to one of the issues I demonstrated in previous videos, where the noise temporarily shows as it should when adjusting or zooming in or out, but then smooths out to a barely there appearance. Hopefully the mods/devs will take notice of this thread soon.
  2. Following up. What happens now that we narrowed the issue down? How does this get reported as a bug for the developers???
  3. @NotMyFault I ended up realizing this. I originally thought he was referring to setting a gradient with the color panel, and then I figured he may have just been talking about setting the noise. I also would have never known that circle toggled back and forth between opacity and noise if I hadn’t found this thread. Learn something new every day!
  4. @thomaso yes, your screenshot has WAY more noise than what renders on my screen. Here's a screencast and screenshot of what I see with replicating your colors and settings. I do have a mac with a retina screen, but it shouldn’t matter since in the past I do remember the noise was much more gritty. In the video, you can see when the noise is initially slid up to 100%, it's loud and proud but then it kind of irons out to finer particles. BIG FINDING REGARDING THE ORIGINAL ISSUE REPORTED IN THIS THREAD: So I realized when I was replicating your design, suddenly the noise slider was working in the gradient color picker, so I went back to my original test doc and confirmed that it actually does work if I use the sliders to set a new color and add noise. What does not work, is if I I go to the SWATCHES to select a recently used color or another color within any of the palettes. Doing that gives the no noise behavior I have described up to this point. So if @GarryP @Old Bruce @thomaso could try choosing their color from a swatch and adding noise, with either a recently used solid color or existing palette color, that would help to narrow down and/or confirm the actual issue I am experiencing. @GarryP I'm also going to drop an mp4 version of my original video you couldn't watch here, as well. Thanks for all of your involvement and time to help get to the bottom of this. Affinity Noise.mp4 Affinity Bug.mp4
  5. @Old Bruce I'm finding the noise is not very noisy either, even when maxed at 100%. I can see it flicker when I zoom in and out and then it kind of smooths back out. I feel like it was way more noticeable when I have used the noise feature in the past, even with similar colors. So if the problem I am having regarding setting the gradient noise from the font color in the toolbar and with the layer effects is a bug, how does it get reported? Do the developers read these posts? Does it have to get flagged or labeled by a moderator or something?
  6. @GarryP I had read last night in another thread that you used the color panel and not the gradient font color in the tool bar or the gradient overlay in the layer effects: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/129687-gradient-noise-not-working/ I am confused about your process of creating gradients, but did learn in that thread how to turn up the noise in the color panel by toggling the opacity slider to noise. I just went back to my test doc and can confirm that if I just set the gradient font colors up in the toolbar and then go over to the color panel to add the noise, it can work. Regardless, the noise feature should still work in the color pickers for the gradient since it's made available as an option to us there.
  7. Discovered this same bug in Affinity Publisher 1.10.4 yesterday. @GarryP how do you use the color panel for this? I only know how to add a gradient from the top toolbar or the layer effects gradient overlay.
  8. @GarryP Also just downloaded your file and if I change the color on the noise end of your gradient, the noise goes away even though I didn't adjust the slider, then if I leave the color picker and open it back up, the noise is back to zero (same behavior as I described up above). I am on a Mac and not a Windows so maybe that has something to do with it.
  9. @GarryP Did you use the toolbar at the top or the layer effects gradient overlay like I did in my video? I see your color panel and I don't understand what is going on there with the "T" slider. Can you teach me something new?
  10. Regardless of whether I use the gradient fill up in the top toolbar or if I add a gradient overlay effect to a layer, I cannot get the noise slider to do anything. When dragging, no effect is shown. I can drag it 100%, but when I go back in to the color picker, it's back to zero. I can copy paste a layer from a document I created last year that had noise and it does display with noise, until I try to change the color and then it's back to the same behavior. I have closed the program and reopened and still same behavior. I read about a previous bug here that was supposedly fixed? https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/122209-gradient-fill-and-noise-filter-not-working-anymore-v184/ I have created a new document with just a text layer to test, as well and still no noise when selecting the gradient colors. However, I discovered that the noise does seem to work for a solid color fill, when toggling between the opacity and noise slider and I then I happened to notice that the color with noise can then be stored and then clicked on when making the gradient, so I suppose I found a workaround for now, but the noise not working for gradient colors is a real issue that should be fixed. I'm going to attach a screencast that demonstrates everything and my docs I am working on so you can see what's happening. I had to downsize the video to 720p, since the full version wouldn't upload, so it might not be real clear. 11. I used this feature successfully on last year's Christmas card, but as I'm designing this one (2021) with Publisher version 1.10.4, I can't get any gradient noise to stick. I use the slider and see no effect. once I exit the gradient color picker and go back to it, the noise slider is back to zero. I copy/pasted an element with noise from my old document and the noise displayed, but wouldn't stay if I changed the color. Is this a bug yet again?
  12. @thomaso @Lagarto That is correct. I believe that I had previously exported various parts of this doc without these troubles and it could be due to more recent edits, more recent Publisher updates, or a glitch that corrupts things, but of course when I needed to go in and grab these pieces, it's a mess. As of my last comment in this thread, I was having the clipping trouble even after clearing all extra line breaks and highlighting the space and removing the stroke from it. In order to get it to finally export correctly, I had to specifically place my cursor before the word "creative" and after the word "solutions" and also remove the stroke. I'm all for persistent problem solving and creative solutions, haha, but I would love to have a solution that is more user friendly, so hopefully now that this is in a bug thread (Thank you @MikeW), the developers can get to the bottom of this. I appreciate all of everyone's time and energy spent on this!
  13. @Lagarto Just read your last comment one. more. time. slowly. and tried just placing my cursor before the "creative" and then after the "solutions" and selecting no line style each time, and then magically it appears that it will clip upon export (see screenshot). So we officially have a workaround, but this is just crazy! Am I right that this needs to be submitted as a bug, since ideally a user should be able to just select the frame and apply the stroke without having to touch every single piece of the text inside? If so, how do we proceed?
  14. @Lagarto, please see my last comment about this. I have only applied the stoke to the words "creative" and "solutions" and not to the space in between. I have also removed all line breaks, and I'm still getting an issue. Here's the latest save of my file. I was working on page 2. facebook cover.afpub
  15. @Lagarto I tried playing around with clicking on the frame, removing the stroke, and then double clicking on the frame to edit, highlighting each word and applying the stroke separately, but still found that when switching back to the selector and just selecting the frame, it still showed up as having a stroke applied overall, and of course the clipping issue still existed. (I also checked and made sure I didn't have an outline applied to the space between the words creative and solutions.)
