Another problem I’ve run in to now is if you create anything more complicated than a stick man the ai crowd turn up accusing you of posting ai output as your own work even though if they knew anything about graphics it obviously isn’t. In theory you shouldn’t care however if it’s aimed at someone trying to sell work and these idiots turn up then potential customers read what they have to say and will put at least some of them off. Arguing your case is like banging your head against a brick wall, it’s a total waste of time as they always know better. Hopefully the courts side with artists but money talks so I’m not holding my breath.

And you can still pick up cs6 very cheaply although on the mac side you can’t run it unless you’re on Mojave or earlier. Well it is a problem if you’re talking about wanting or needing an alternative to Adobe generally, not for specific for use cases. I’ve no idea, you might be right and it will never get there especially if they decide to release additional products like DAM… and they’re then spread even more thinly. However just as you say cs6 is fine for you the same can be said about Affinity apps. Some will be absolutely fine with what v1 gave them never mind v2. Some certainly couldn’t care less about 1 bit graphics, not everyone use swatches. In the same way, say for you, you decide Affinity isn’t really good enough others will say cs6 isn’t enough for them. Related I noticed a headline from a few months back saying that paid Adobe CC subscriptions have almost reached 30 million. Think how much that is a month.

I know the other subscription options are even better but even read only would be better than what adobe offers. But it’s academic as they’re not going to change. Which is why your best hope is someone makes products that are on parity, or close to, but for a one off cost. Not going to happen any time soon though. Look at AD for example, very slowly getting closer to where AI was. But as AI didn’t stand still you could argue it’s almost as far behind now as it was when it was first released. Which is why my guess is 10-15 years assuming AI runs out of things to add, which isn’t going to happen for a while. There are “lesser” alternatives, which might suit many people’s needs fine, so it’s a bit more than adobe are a monopoly because they’re not really. It’s also that, for better or worse, they are the industry standards. If you want to get in to graphics design or whatever companies expect you to know Adobe products (unless you’re talking about UI/UX). If you send files they expect it in Adobe format. So you could say companies make things worse and in turn make Adobe worse or at least there’s no pressure put on them to change. I really meant if you’re earning a ok living from whatever you do then it’s not always such a big deal, plus of course it’s a deductible business expense. But I get your point. You could say that for some (many?) even if you could buy outright like the old days it would be a problem especially for one man bands trying to get going. AI/PS wasn’t exactly cheap back then never mind the Master Collection.

Even read only, like Office 365 does, would be OK. So you could still export and print just can’t edit. But not enough people dropped it (or couldn’t) so why would they change if they can get away with it? I guess if you’re making money using it then it’s not such a big deal being locked in and continually paying for it. There still isn’t anything out there does everything AI or PS can (assuming you need everything), no idea about other apps like dtp. Perhaps in another 10-15 years Affinity might be there or perhaps a newcomer will do it instead, who knows.

Affinity A-I app

AI upscaling, de-noise or adjustments fine (although that seems to be hit and miss) generating images no. There’s far too much functionality that could/should be added without jumping on to that bandwagon. A lot of the AI output isn’t nearly as impressive as some of the users think it is anyway unless you’re only looking at a tiny thumbnail. Not saying it’s all bad but a lot if it is. If you want AI generated stuff you already have multiple options out there, use those. -
I know it already does that, just saying you don’t need to unless you really want to. There are easier ways that your browser can already do those things and so you don’t need to install python, extra libraries and run external apps to do it. Yes the python script blocks ads etc but who doesn’t run an adblocker these days, in my opinion the web is barely usable without one. Also as I said I would use a privacy respecting search engine and not google so you don’t care about cookies. Still don’t understand the need for a spell checking utility, browsers check spelling as you type or once you paste text but it’s obviously useful to you. Anyway some may find them useful and prefer to do it the python way but, even though I’ve python installed, I’d do it the easy way.

https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Ahttps%3A%2F%2Fforum.affinity.serif.com%2F+%s For the search you could just set up a custom search engine instead. Think it would be the above although I’d swap google.com for startpage.com for privacy reasons. Not certain it’s better than searching directly from here though. If you want to be a bit fancier for no good reason you could create a javascript bookmarklet to prompt for the search term and search for it. You can also use bookmarklets for translation and url shortener, not sure why you’d want spell check as it’s built in to everything. I’m on my ipad at the minute or would do the code but it’s not hard to find. So no real need to do it in python especially if you don’t already have it installed. But it’s good practice!

Actually I don’t eat much chocolate just once in a while I’ll fancy some.

It’s only the pen and some shapes so not much to learn tool wise. it’s more getting the hang of the shading, gradients and blurs for this.

Thanks. My reference had someone outside and one or two inside but they didn’t improve the scene so left them out. Was nice not to add blurs to anything, saved lots of time. -

Based on a studio model used for one the Thunderbird comics. I changed the back wall to be head on, I thought it would look neater being a little more simple. Yeah I know the wings wouldn't normally be extended but they are as it looks better, perhaps it's being spring cleaned or something!

One that's fairly local to me, I got rid of some bits like the ugly modern lamp post. I was going to add more people but most said not to, so I didn't.

It might only be me but putting blur down the bottom in v2 whereas in v1 it was at the top so was automatically selected is a pain (so much so I’ve gone back to v1) when your doing tons of them, just takes that bit longer each time. Blur is the only fx that you would possibly use a lot (I just mean more than a handful) so should be first still. it’s too large a panel to just leave open. Related is that you can’t check the scale box until you’ve set up the fx unlike v1. If your mouse is down in that area anyway you want to check that first not last. While I’m at it, in theory you could use the quick fx panel but it is also a bit annoying as it doesn’t stay expanded so again that is a bit more long winded than it need be.

Saying how much something costs is always a good plan! I don't think Affinity is about to get into that type of thing, print on demand or even selling digital outputs of work but then I don't know anything about their plans, I just can't see it. I don't really look at the store but clipart may be OK, I'm not sure. I can't imagine many selling their output for £1-2, just not worth the bother after the host takes their cut. Well yes several £2 obviously do add up but not to anything worth talking about, perhaps pays for a pizza or treat of your choice. I never output to PDF, why not JPG or TIFF? As for clipart licensing I'd have thought you can do what you please with it other than share it or re-sell it.

I only do that because that’s my name 😆 I thought vectorvondoom but then thought marvel would probably moan so something with my name is easy. Junk, well not posh, cheap paper, cheap inks, don’t want that. I think limited vs unlimited both have pros and cons but I’d imagine newbie would tend to go for unlimited. I think a mix isn’t a bad way though. Becoming much sought after probably isn’t something to consider too seriously as you’ve no idea if that could happen.
