I followed the video Tutorial on creating a master-page layout using guides and columns. Saved my work. Guides showed up in (default) first spread.

Added a page without placing any assets on first page (INCIDENTALLY: the Menu displays the wrong shortcut for add a page: it shows CMD-SHIFT-ArrDn but the shortcut is in fact CMD-SHIFT-PGDn)

All the guides (but not the colums) disappeared. On both pages AND the Master Page. Huh?

Checked the "Guides Manager" for the Master Page. It's now EMPTY. Huh?

Tried again: LOCKED the guides this time. But the same result.

Am I holding it wrong?

Thanks,

OK.. Further investigation shows that this problem seems to occur with the DEVICES spread selection. I am interested mainly in iPad PDF publication (targeting 12.9" retina iPads).

When I set the spread to e.g. A4 or A2, there is no problem with disappearing guides.

But every time I add a second page using the iPad Spread preset --- the columns and guides disappear even from the Master!

This Page Down/Up and Home/End display is a problem with the menus but the Keyboard Shortcuts in the Preferences shows them correctly.

Not seeing the guides disappearing, that sounds odd when I read it... I see the guides before and after a second page is added.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Hi Old Bruce,

I'm not really troubled by the menu icons. Just a glitch.

But I now have to withdraw that claim on the page guides. They were definitely disappearing on me at first using an iPad layout ( I still have one of the empty .afpub files that I created to try to figure this out).

But I switched to using a "print" layout of the right dimensions and pixel depth the problem seems mysteriously to have corrected itself.

Or maybe I WAS holding it wrong.

Best,

Peter
