Basic Word Processing Capability within text Boxes

Recommended Posts

It appears that your Publisher is set up primarily to assemble finished objects into a print ready, publishable format.

I wondered if there is a way to create the original text content by entering it directly into a "text" box via a simplified Word Processor style mode.

For example... A photographer  may have a collection of photos  for which they wish to provide captions or brief descriptions on the fly.

A children's book might consist of photos or drawings   created or modified in Designer  that are imported into  a Publisher page containing an empty text box.

The story may actually be created simultaneously with its illustration.  This feature might also be handy for the creation and modification of magazine articles or possibly even lengthier works.

Maybe such a capability already exists and I just haven't found the right sub menu yet, however if it doesn't it could make a really great product even more user friendly and could

significantly improve work flow.

I am writing and rewriting my books directly into Publisher.  That is the beauty of it!  I believe that if you will try it out you will find that it is really straightforward.  Perhaps the way for you to start would be to type some of your story into an empty text box, then File>Place an image on top of the text, then choose one of the Text Wrap settings to see how easily you can flow the text around your image.  Captions are easy.  Just create a little text frame outside your main text frame (I use the canvas) enter the text, and group it with the image.  I usually temporarily drag the image outside the text frame to do the grouping, and then drag it back into the text frame.  Voilà!  New and proper text flow around both.  And for more than one page, be sure to check linking text frames.

I am sure there are many others who have more sophisticated ways to accomplish this, who will be glad to help you out.   Anyway, works for me.    I think you will really like Publisher!!
