pcworth
How do I add Alt Text to images in Publisher so that they are screen reader compliant? We are now required to make sure that all online documents in higher education pass a set of screen reader compliance tests, which includes all images having an alt-text. Thanks. Dan C
Hi pcworth, Welcome to the forums The alt tags are added in the html code of the page not within the images AFAIK. Affinity Publisher is a design/DTP application. It doesn't output any code for web so there's no way to add them inside the app, my apologies. pcworth
Web is not the kind of Alt tag I need, although they are essentially the same. I need the at tags in PDF output for a screenreader because we are now required to make all PDF documents, including page layout documents, screenreader accessible. Microsoft Publisher has a nice tool, but was hoping to find an alternative to MS Publisher on Parallels, which supports image alt-tags, but if Affinity does not then I guess I am going back. Or I will need to buy something like Acrobat to add them in post processing. Edited June 24, 2019 by pcworth frindley and siafok
Dan C
I understand, thanks for that. Unfortunately you're correct in saying this isn't a feature of Affinity Publisher, although we do hope to improve our PDF compatibility options in the future. In the meantime you can of course export your PDF from Publisher, then use an external program such as Acrobat to add these tags, as you've mentioned
MaggieP
Adding another voice of support for this being a feature in Affinity Publisher. Accessibility features are critical to PDFs for many companies (as a designer, I am watching this become more and more of a requirement for my clients). Alt text for images is one of the most basic ways to support these principles. siafok, Unknown_User, Rachel.CCLS and 1 other
PTG
I know I'm 2 years late, but still no accessibility features in Affinity Publisher. What are you waiting for, Affinity?? siafok
