I thought I understood Curves...

Recommended Posts

I spent an hour or two working through curves tutorials a few days ago and thought I finally had a handle on them. But...

As I understand it, if I apply a curve and drag the master channel black node directly to the right like this:

All output values should be mapped to 0, 0, 0 - black. But when I apply this curve to this image (primaries, secondaries, black, 50% grey and white with fades to black, white and 50% grey):

I get this:

Looking closer, everything is mapped except pure primary and secondary colors and white.

This happens in the beta as well. Can someone set me straight on this?

The result looks correct. The rightmost node is still at full output (see top right corner of the graph) and, therefore, for each channel, the maximum input value is mapped to the maximum output value.

You're absolutely right. I usually catch these kinds of errors while I'm preparing the question for posting.

Learning AP is fun but perhaps more mentally draining than I realized.
