when I 'place' and image, I can transform the size, but is it possible to 'zip up' one edge? meaning the entire image doesn't change size, but i can shorten one edge (like laying a piece of paper over the image, instead of scrunching it up)  based on how i want the image to show with bleed.

the other question is, when zipping up my text boxes so they don't hang over my page numbers, sometime more lines than i want disappear. is there a way to set the exact number of lines I want to appear? often it deletes entire paragraphs, and I want to keep a standard number of lines on each page.

Thanks!

Hello @Allison,

before placing an image create a picture frame first. Then, with the picture frame selected, place the image.
Place the picture frame where you want it to be on (and off) the page.
Next switch to the Move Tool (v) and make sure the option 'Lock Children' (at the far right end  of the toolbar) is enabled.
Finally you can move the picture frame's handles and it will hide the parts of the picture that are outside of the picture frame.

This of course works everywhere not only at page borders.

There is another option: turn on 'View > View Mode > Clip to Canvas'. This does also what you are asking for :)

Cheers,
d.
